Anthony Mackie, fresh off playing Captain America in his first solo MCU film, is now forced to take on a completely different character from Sam Wilson for Twisted Metal, as the post-apocalyptic action-comedy series wraps up its second season.
For Anthony Mackie, the difference between playing Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and playing John Doe in a post-apocalyptic, game-adapted comedy series is more than just the miles of difference between the two characters. The difference is also apparent in the co-stars he works with and the promotional interviews he sits down for.
In recent conversations, Mackie has expanded on the different experiences he has had with these two characters. Keep reading to find out the role that his Twisted Metal co-star, Stephanie Beatriz, known for her role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, plays in the wildly opposite experiences.
Twisted Metal star Anthony Mackie reveals he is the Stephanie Beatriz of the duo when he sits down with Sebastian Stan for interviews

For Anthony Mackie, jumping from playing John Doe for Twisted Metal and then taking up Sam Wilson for Avengers: Doomsday would be a wildly different experience. Both of these characters could not be further apart if they tried.
Where Captain America is a stoic, responsible, honest, and open-hearted soldier, John is a take-every-day-as-it-comes type. For John, every day is a new day, and he lives and breathes for the excitement and unpredictability that it brings.
Similarly, Mackie's experiences with his co-stars on Twisted Metal and Avengers: Doomsday will also be wildly different. Where Stephanie Beatriz is a social butterfly who could handle the entire press junket without troubling Mackie for a second, Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes, or White Wolf, is the quietest junket partner.
"Sebastian is by far one of the most lovingly, joyously quiet people of all time. So literally, you have to egg him on to make him say something. Whereas with Stephanie, I can literally put my hand on her shoulder and take a nap. She's the butterfly to my…"
Anthony Mackie reveals that when it comes to Stephanie Beatriz, he could take an entire nap while she handles the questions and the press, whereas with Sebastian Stan, the most "joyous, lovable" partner is extremely quiet and has to be constantly egged on during the press junket.

Beatriz then jokingly summarizes this revelation by saying that when Anthony Mackie has Sebastian Stan as his press junket partner, he has to be the Stephanie Beatriz of the duo and have all the questions directed towards himself while egging Stan on to interact.
"Wait, so when you're with Sebastian, you're the me?"
Anthony finishes this up jokingly by adding that this is the sole reason he wants to do seventeen long seasons of Twisted Metal so that he can have all the questions directed at Stephanie while he takes a nap, much like a dead bug.
This is why we're doing 17 seasons of the show. Every time I sit in here, I'm like, [points to Beatriz]
The exceptional back-and-forth between Mackie and Beatriz during this conversation is just a sneak peek of the dynamic they share on Twisted Metal. The show is yet to be renewed for a third season, but critics' and audience reviews have been very positive so far. So, the future might just be bright for the action-comedy show.
All 12 episodes of Twisted Metal Season 2 are now available to stream on Peacock.
