Stranger Things has been a worldwide phenomenon like no other. Created by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, who are also known as The Duffer Brothers, the sci-fi horror and mystery series was an instant hit when it first premiered in 2016.
Starring Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, and others, the show catapulted its stars to fame and revived the careers of many. The show has 4 seasons so far and fans are eagerly awaiting its 5th and final season that premieres in three parts through November and December 2025.
Matt and Ross Duffer recreated the latent nostalgia that many people have for the 1980s and created a show that focuses on the small-town residents of a town called Hawkins in Indiana, which is best by problems when an illegal science experiment leads to the unleashing of monsters from another dimension.
With the perfect mix of 1980s nostalgia, synth soundtracks, incredible cast performances, and stellar visuals, The Duffer Brothers are now a renowned duo, thanks to Stranger Things and according to Variety, the brothers are negotiating their Netflix exit and are processing a massive Paramount deal. More on this below.
Details about Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer exiting Netflix and negotiating a Paramount deal

According to Variety, Matt and Ross Duffer are moving from Netflix and are in the midst of a huge deal negotiation with Paramount. The Duffer Brothers are in “advanced negotiations” to create exclusive film and TV content, with special focus on tentpole films.
With Paramount recently being taken over by David Ellison’s Skydance, it seems that massive changes are underway for the legacy studio and the duo are one of the first few creators to make the shift to the Paramount and Skydance alliance.
The movie will bring back The Duffer Brothers with Cindy Holland, who is the new head of streaming at Paramount, and who was the one who greenlit Stranger Things at Netflix. The brothers will also work with Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg, who are on the creative side of film and series division.
What this means for The Duffer Brothers and what’s next

Matt and Ross Duffer still have a lot of partnerships with Netflix as their production company Upside Down Pictures is run by partner Hilary Leavitt. They have completed production on two new series that will debut on Netflix in 2026. One of them is “The Boroughs” with Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, and others. While the other one is “Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen” with Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Further, there is an upcoming animated prequel preview of “Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85”, which will be screened at the 2025 Annecy Festival in June. The brothers are also expected to mount an unannounced live action spin-off series after Stranger Things Season 5.
