Talamasca: The Secret Order is AMC’s latest show of the Immortal Universe, created by John Lee Hancock. The show is based on The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches, which follows a secret society that investigates and monitors supernatural creatures like vampires, witches, demons, and ghosts.

The show premiered on October 19, 2025, and two episodes have been released. Till now, we haven't seen any zombies, but a humorous comment about zombies was made that made viewers wonder whether zombies exist in this universe. Now, the showrunners have cleared speculations and revealed the truth about whether zombies exist in Talamasca: The Secret Order.

Talamasca: The Secret Order showrunners on whether the zombies are part of the show's universe?

In the very initial part of Talamasca: The Secret Order, the show refers to zombies. It shows a recruit, Guy Anatole, who gets introduced to the organization by Helen, a senior member. She introduces him to the order and says that Talamasca’s mission involves

“vampires, witches, demons, and ghosts.”

Guy then playfully asks whether the group also deals with zombies, given how the organization deals with multiple supernatural beings. Helen laughs off the question, saying that zombies aren’t real and that he

“watches too much telly.”

This part of the conversation seemed like a joke, but if one has been a fan of AMC's other show, The Walking Dead, which deals with zombies, they might have felt that the joke was a reference to the show. This subtle nod led many to wonder if Talamasca: The Secret Order was hinting at a shared universe or a potential crossover with The Walking Dead.

To address the speculation, showrunners John Lee Hancock and Mark Laffery spoke with TVLine about the scene. Hancock said to TVLine,

"That was just a fun little rib at AMC that we thought would give them a chuckle and they wouldn't be offended by."

Laffery then clarified that zombies are not part of Anne Rice’s world but admitted some creatures might resemble them in certain ways. He said,

"Our meticulous Anne Rice fact checkers at Gran Via [Productions] and AMC didn't flag that one, so as far as we understand, there are no zombies in the Anne Rice Universe. If there are, let us know. We could probably make some use of them."

Laffery continued,

"[T]here are definitely beings that sort of seem zombie-like. We have hybrid creatures and things where you go, 'I don't know quite what that is.' But yeah, for now I think 'The Walking Dead' has has grabbed that zip code and taken it fully from us."

Laffery and Hancock's words make it clear that zombies don’t exist in Talamasca: The Secret Order but that doesn’t mean viewers won’t see creatures that look or act like them. For instance Jasper the vampire overseeing the Talamasca’s London branch appears to be building a group of feral vampires who have lost control of themselves. These creatures display mindless hunger and violent behavior traits commonly associated with zombies even though they are still vampires. Thus we might get to see creatures similar to zombies.

For now, Talamasca: The Secret Order will revolve around vampires and witches mostly. This keeps it consistent with other series in the Immortal Universe. While zombies are not going to be part of the show the feral vampires are still present in the show. Even so the zombie joke fit perfectly into the show’s tone adding humor while referencing The Walking Dead.

New episodes of Talamasca: The Secret Order will be released on Sundays on AMC and AMC+
