After TBS opted not to renew American Dad, fans were dubious whether the show would be cancelled or not. This show has already become popular. It also has a huge fan base that keeps eagerly waiting for more episodes.

So, fans were relieved to find out that American Dad will indeed be returning, but this time, there will be certain broadcast restrictions that will be in place for the show.

Yes, TBS might have decided not to renew American Dad, but Fox came to the rescue. Fox is now the broadcasting network for this show.

What broadcasting restrictions will American Dad have to follow?

The previous seasons of this TV show were filled with humor and an intriguing storyline. These two aspects will not change, but the main thing that this show will need to follow in its new broadcasting network is mentioned by executive producer Matt Weitzman during the Comic-Con.

He says,

“The only thing that we’re gonna have to get used to is no longer being able to say ‘shit’ and ‘God damn it,’”

It is not uncommon for TV shows to have to go through certain restrictions while transitioning from one network to another. Hence, this restriction for American Dad is also a crucial lookout for the show producers and writers.

It will be an influential factor in depicting how the writers approach the storyline and dialogues, which were done differently before the network change. Matt Weitzman also added,

“We’re really happy to really just be able to make more episodes. We were on Fox for eight years, and then we’re on TBS for 10 more years. And I can’t tell you how giddy I was when I found out that we’re going to be back on Fox for four more years. I thought maybe we were going to find another place for a little while, but the fact that we’re going to be back on Fox is super exciting.”

We can all agree with Matt Weitzman’s words that the news of more episodes sounds great and promising. The broadcast restriction definitely will not change how intriguing the show is. American Dad’s signature blend of absurdity and dark humor through a character-driven story is expected to remain the same.

American Dad tells the story of Stan Smith and his unique family. He is a CIA agent. He is also very proud of his country and his job. His wife is Francine, is a housewife.

His daughter is Hayley. She is liberal and quite free-spirited. Her ideals often clash with her father's. Stan’s son, Steve, is awkward and nerdy. The over-the-top situations that go around in the family add to the storyline, making it humorous.

There is an ever-changing dynamic of the personas. The Smith family is also quite dysfunctional, and they can quickly spiral into chaotic situations.

The producers of this TV show have to find the balance by keeping the show’s distinctive voice and also adhering to Fox’s broadcasting restrictions. A subtle tweak in the dialogues here and there and a shift in the visual gags can do the trick perfectly.

This broadcasting restriction is just about strategic editing and creative problem-solving. The creators will have to find more nuanced ways to express the social commentary that the viewers love about this show.

If the creators can do this, then this show can successfully navigate the broadcasting restrictions. The viewers will be watching the upcoming episodes closely to see how it unfolds.
