Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson recently spoke with Bleeding Cool, highlighting his unique connection with the iconic sci-fi franchise Star Trek. According to the report, he auditioned for the lead role of Commander Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) but was not selected. He was close to getting finalized, but the part ultimately went to Avery Brooks, who played Sisko for all seven seasons.

"I auditioned for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. When they told me that they were thinking about going with a black captain, this was back in the day, I thought, "They're not going to make the captain the black guy."

He further expressed how he has always been a Star Trek fan, but has never actually been cast for any of the shows. Read on to know what more the actor said.

Ernie Hudson shared in a recent interview how he is a fan of the sci-fi show Star Trek, and he also actually auditioned for the role of Benjamin Sisko, a lead commander. He thought the makers liked his audition as it went really well. However, he was then informed that the makers are rethinking their decision to make the ship captain black. This is when the actor believed maybe they don't want to make him black anymore. However, the actor received a callback.

"They told me they wanted me to come in, so I went into the audition, and I read. I thought I did a good reading, and they liked me, then they wanted me to come back the next day."

They told him to make Sisko "sexier", and this is what confused him.

"They told me to "make him sexier," and now I don't know how to do that. I don't know what that means, so I went to the meeting, and I did an Elvis [Presley] thing, and it was ridiculous. Halfway through my reading, they said, "Thank you. That's enough,"

He also mentioned being open to joining the show in some capacity if the opportunity presents.

Hudson and Avery Brooks share this one common Star Trek role, and it's ironic.

Ernie Hudson also did a TV movie where he got to play Hawk.

"I did a TV movie called 'Walking Shadow' (2001) with Joey Montagna playing the lead as Spenser, but I played the role of Hawk, and my head was shaved."

He also mentioned how even before Avery Brooks ever played Sisko, he played the bald and Streetwise enforcer Hawk on Spenser: For Hire and its spinoff, A Man Called Hawk.

Hudson's role after his bad audition went to Brooks, and the two actors have actually played the same role in two different films, making a quirky "alternate universe" connection between the two.

So Hudson’s link to the show is not just that he almost became Sisko, but also that he later played the same character, Hawk, that Brooks was best known for before becoming Sisko.
