As of today, Netflix has officially confirmed that filming for the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender is over, and the sophomore season is in the can! Riding on the success of the debut season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the streaming platform giant was quick to announce greenlighting the show for a subsequent second and third season.
While production began on the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender back in the Fall of last year and ended recently, work on the third season is slated to kick off soon.
Apart from the returning cast, several new actors have been roped in to play important roles in the sophomore season, and Dichen Lachman of Severance fame is one such actress. Here's everything that you need to know.
Who is in the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2?
Since Avatar: The Last Airbender has now established itself as a prestigious adaptation of the animated original series, it is only natural that the upcoming second season of the Netflix show would leave no stone unturned when it comes to attracting the best talent in terms of its cast. Along with Dichen Lachman, who is slated to appear on the show as Yangchen, the second season will also feature Dolly De Leon as Lo and Li, Lily Gao as Ursa, Madison Hu as Fei, Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong, Tantoo Cardinal as Hama, and Jon Jon Briones as Piandao.
While Lachman received widespread appreciation for her role on the Apple TV+ show Severance, Tantoo Cardinal garnered rave reviews for her performance on Martin Scorsese's directorial Killers of the Flower Moon as well as on Marvel's Echo.
Showrunner and Executive Producer open up about Avatar: The Last Airbender
Showrunner Albert Kim and Executive Producer/Director/VFX Supervisor Jabbar Raisani spoke at length about the Netflix show in an exclusive interview with IGN's 2024 Fan Coverage. When asked about their first introduction to the show, Raisani recalled:
"I saw it when it first came out. I was a big fan of it, and then I got wind that Netflix was going to be making it, and I was like, "How do I get on that show?" And I started talking with Teddy (Netflix content executive Teddy Biaselli) about it, and then I think Teddy mentioned me to you, and then that's how I ended up on it."
Similarly, Kim recounted:
"It was my daughter's favorite show growing up. So I used to come home and find her sitting by herself watching it every day. And I sat down with her because I thought it was a little bit above her head. But pretty soon, I stopped explaining things; I was just watching it on my own because it was so good. So that's how I got hooked into the original series."
Avatar: The Last Airbender is exclusively available on Netflix.
