Before All of Us Are Dead Season 2 returns, binge this twisted zombie K-Drama on Netflix that’s just as terrifying

All of Us Are Dead, which was released on Netflix on January 28, 2022, set a new standard for Korean dramas. Before Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead was a global hit that took Korean Dramas to a different level internationally.

Despite the show's massive success and a season 2 renewal, it will take All of Us Are Dead quite some time to return with season 2. The good news is that filming for season 2 begins in summer 2025.

All of Us Are Dead season 1 was based on a webtoon, and the show had the official logline stating,

"First one student. Next a high school. Then an entire city. As a zombie apocalypse spreads fast, only those who can help themselves may stay alive."

All of Us Are Dead depicts the story of a zombie outbreak in a high school in the fictional city of Hyosan in South Korea. It all starts with a science teacher's experiment going wrong, resulting in people turning into zombies in the high school. Things get worse when the outbreak spreads through the city, and students trapped in the school must battle this hurdle together and survive.

The cast that plays the high school students includes: Cho Yi-hyun as Choi Nam-ra, Yoon Chan-young as Lee Cheong-san, Yoo In-soo as Yoon Gwi-nam, Park Ji-hu as Nam On-jo, Lomon as Lee Su-hyeok, and Lee Yoo-mi as Lee Na-yeon. Kim Byung-chul plays Lee Byeong-chan, the science teacher who creates the Jonas Virus, which causes the zombie outbreak.

The show explores themes of survival, bullying, and classism. It is known for a brutal portrayal of what a zombie apocalypse would look like. Besides, it focuses on characters on a personal level, making the show more than a story about a zombie outbreak.

The first season ended with martial law being lifted, with quarantine rules in place. However, the season ends on a cliff-hanger when we see the surviving group of students reunite with Nam-ra. She is revealed to be half-zombie, but is surviving normally nonetheless. Turns out, other half-zombies like her exist, leaving is anticipating how they would affect the survivors of Hyosan.

Since the show used its source material for the first season, we will get to see a completely fresh story in the second season. The second season is predicted to be released sometime in 2026 or 2027, but no official dates have been announced.

While you wait for All of Us Are Dead Season 2, you can watch another Korean drama about zombies, Sweet Home. The show ran for three seasons and concluded its story in 2024. All of Us Are Dead and Sweet Home are both streaming on Netflix.
