Behind Her Eyes, the psychological thriller series, which was released on Netflix on 17th February 2021, had a shocking twist at the end. While the show explores a twisted take from the beginning, the ending pulls the rug from under your feet when you least expect it.
The show follows Louise (played by Simona Brown), a single mother, who starts an affair with her boss, David (Tom Bateman). However, in a strange turn of events, she also unexpectedly befriends his wife, Adele (Eve Hewson). As their lives intertwine, Louise's life spirals into a gripping psychological thriller. The show explores the themes of secrecy, deception, curiosity, and psychology, which eventually cost Louise a heavy price.

How does Behind Her Eyes end?
Most of the episodes of Behind Her Eyes are spent with Louise trying to figure out how to stop her nightmares while having an affair with her boss, David. Adele helps Louise with her night terrors by introducing her to astral projection, and Louise also gradually learns about David and Adele's complicated past.
Before the finale episode, the show reveals a few things. Adele had lost her parents in a fire at their country estate, and to cope with that, Adele had been admitted to a rehab facility. There, she met Rob (played by Robert Aramayo), and the two became friends.
However, ten years before the show's present time, Rob passed away due to a heroin overdose. We also learn that Adele threw his body into a well. To make sure that David wouldn't reveal this detail to anybody else, Adele threw his watch in the same well to blackmail him.

The ending of Behind Her Eyes, however, turns everything upside down. The ending reveals that Rob did not die. Well, his physical body did, but his soul did not. All those years ago, Adele had taught Rob how to astral project, and he took advantage of that. One day, he pumped himself with a lot of heroin before convincing Adele to astral project and swap souls with him.
This trapped her soul in Rob's body, and then he pumped more heroin into his physical body, leading to an overdose and eventual death. Rob did this to make sure that Adele's soul died, but in Rob's body. Thus, all this time, it wasn't Adele who was married to David and astral projecting. It was Rob in Adele's body.
In the Behind Her Eyes finale, Louise figures out that Adele can astral project and tells David. David finally decides to go to the police in Scotland to tell them what happened to Rob, that Adele threw him into a well. Meanwhile, Louise calls Adele to tell her that David is going to tell the police the truth, and Adele implies that she is going to end her life. To stop that from happening, Louise goes to Adele's house. But it doesn't go as one would predict.

Heroin overdose seems to be Rob's favorite way to end lives, because he does the same thing again. Before Louise reaches Adele's house, Rob pumps heroin into Adele's body and sets the house on fire. When Louise reaches the house and is unable to get in to save whom she thinks is Adele (but actually Rob), she astral projects inside the house.
Rob (in Adele's body) uses this opportunity to swap souls with Louise, trapping her in Adele's body. Thus, Louise dies in Adele's body, while Rob lives on in Louise's body, and the show ends with David and Louise married. David, despite being a psychiatrist, doesn't suspect anything, like he hadn't when Rob lived in Adele's body. The only one unsettled is Adam, Louise's son.

And thus, Rob gets away with murder in the most twisted way. Netflix cancelled Behind Her Eyes after its first season, and thus, we don't know if David and Adam ever find out the truth.
