Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 5 Recap: A deadly twist in Billy’s escape plan

In the previous episode of Billy the Kid Season 3, Billy got arrested. The failed system that made him what he was now painted him as the monster who doesn't belong with them due to his crimes. In Episode 5, he was tried and sentenced to death.

However, as Sheriff Pat Garrett left to go to Santa Fe, Billy began his escape plan, and after killing two of his deputies, he fled. Garrett began looking for Billy and even investigated his allies. Later, he also went to Pete Maxwell's house, where he encountered Billy and shot him, fatally injuring him.

Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 5 Recap: Billy escapes prison

After his arrest in the previous episode of Billy the Kid Season 3, Billy was kept under the observation of Deputies Bob Olinger and James Bell. As Sheriff Garret went to Santa Fe to collect his death warrant, Billy began his escape plan. While Olinger's hatred toward Billy was visible, Billy also noticed that James was much more friendly toward him.

He even took care of his food and played cards with him. After Billy was sure James trusted him enough, he asked to go to the bathroom. That's when he pushed James and acquired his gun, and threatened to kill him, but also informed him that he did not want to do it, as James was a good man. However, James did not follow what Billy asked him to do and was killed by Billy.

Olinger also arrived at the scene and became the next victim of Billy. Later, with the help of people around, Billy successfully escaped from prison.


Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 5 Recap: Garrett shoots Billy

While the local people and allies trusted Billy, the media had a different plan. In Episode 5 of Billy the Kid Season 3, Billy was painted as a dangerous criminal by the media. Among several characters, Billy found a surprising defender in Emily. She confronted Catron about the death sentence, which Catron defended by telling her Billy was a criminal and deserved it.

Furthermore, he also highlighted the fact that he was Irish and did not belong with the Americans. Emily did not think like that; she told him Americans came from various backgrounds and places, and therefore, Billy also deserves to live among them.

Elsewhere, Garrett went to see all of Billy's allies, including Dulcinea, whom Billy came to meet after escaping. However, none of them revealed Billy's location, which angered Garrett, who ended up slapping Dulcinea. He then went to Pete Maxwell's home, as he knew the latter was a friend of the criminal.

While he couldn't get a lead from Pete, he left. However, he came back and encountered Billy in Pete's home and shot him in the chest. The episode ended with Billy being shot by Garrett.

Furthermore, Jesse Evans and his gang were also released from New Mexico and all of them headed back to Lincoln except Jesse, who wanted to go to Silver City instead, as he thought Billy's death was inevitable and they cannot help save him.
