Black Mirror Season 7 was released on Netflix on April 10, 2025. Episode 2 of the latest season is called Bête Noire, and the phrase just by itself means a person you deeply dislike. The story of this episode is based on Maria and the person she deeply dislikes, Verity, whose arrival and then employment at her place of work makes Maria feel she is losing her mind.

Like every season of the show, Black Mirror Season 7 is an anthology series, and the episodes each tell a different story and thus feature separate casts. Here's a guide to who plays whom in Black Mirror Season 7 Episode 2, Bête Noire.

Black Mirror Season 7 Episode 2 cast

Black Mirror Season 7 Episode 2 Bête Noire featured a story about alternate realities, gaslighting, and manipulation. It follows Maria, a creative developer at a chocolate company, who presents a daring miso-filled bar during a tasting session. The group rejects it until Verity, a latecomer who insists it improves with another bite, changes their minds. Soon, Verity tells Maria she is an old classmate applying for a job that Maria insists doesn’t exist, until the position inexplicably appears online and Verity is instantly hired.

As Verity thrives, Maria’s work, memories, and sanity unravel, and reality itself seems to be changing. Trying to make sense of what's happening, Maria learns that Verity was once the victim of cruel bullying and gossiping in school. When Maria breaks into Verity’s home, she discovers a hidden quantum computer that allows Verity to alter timelines and destroy her tormentors’ lives. In a final confrontation, Maria kills Verity, steals her device, and begins reshaping the universe to her will, becoming Empress of Everything.

In Bête Noire, Siena Kelly plays Maria, a creative developer, and Rosy McEwen plays Verity Greene, the new employee at Maria's office whose arrival upends Maria's life. Siena Kelly is also known for playing Michelle Wilson in Temple, Amy Deighton in Adult Material, and Domino in Domino Day.
