NBC's American crime drama series Blindspot concluded with Season 5 in 2020, but fans are still not sure whether Kurt and Jane stayed together in the Season 5 finale.
Kurt Weller, the leader of the FBI Critical Incident Response Group, which found Jane Doe in a duffel bag at Times Square, had no idea that the unidentified woman with memory loss and loads of tattoos on her body would eventually be revealed as Taylor, his childhood friend.
However, this shocking reveal ended Kurt's relentless pursuit of Taylor. While working on Jane's case, the couple fell in love and eventually got married.
While the Blindspot series finale suggested that Jane and Kurt successfully defused the bomb and Jane was saved from the ZIP poisoning, an alternate ending suggests that she actually died at Times Square and the dinner scene was just another of her hallucinations.
While the couple got together in the NBC drama, it was left for interpretation whether Jane survived the ZIP poisoning or not.
More on this in our story.
Kurt and Jane had an on-and-off relationship in Blindspot
Being the central romantic couple in Blindspot, Kurt and Jane had their fair share of ups and downs. Since Jane had no recollection of her memories and was found in a duffel bag in Times Square by Kurt's team, he was the only guiding light in solving her case, using the tattoos on her body.
After the Critical Incident Response Group brought Jane into the interrogation room, it was clear that the couple had a unique connection. While Jane had no recollection of Kurt, he revealed a big tattoo of his name on her back, which suggested that the couple were former acquaintances and shared a deep history.
As Kurt and Jane partnered up in solving her case in Blindspot, they grew close. Kurt also discovered a unique scar on Jane's back, similar to his childhood best friend and neighbor, Taylor Shaw, who was abducted when she was five years old.
After running a DNA test, it was confirmed that Jane is actually Taylor, and Kurt helped her regain some of her lost memories, telling her about their shared past and how the two of them spent their childhood together.
This exercise helped Jane gain trust in Kurt, and the couple eventually got married in Season 3.
Blindspot concluded with an ambiguous finale for Kurt and Jane
The Blindspot series finale was high-stakes for Jane and Kur, and they realized that Jane was again on the verge of a ZIP poisoning. While she was having ZIP-induced hallucinations, Kurt and the team realized that Ivy had planted another ZIP bomb in an unknown location, which could likely claim many lives.
Since the ZIP antidote would tamper with Jane's memories, she refused to take the antidote and remembers the location of the bomb, Times Square. Jane and Kurt reached the location just in time, defusing the bomb and saving all the people.
Blindspot concludes with a large family dinner with Kurt, Jane, Bethany, their foster children, and other members of the FBI. However, the scene cuts to Jane having a flash of Times Square, where she defused the bomb but died of the ZIP poisoning, while a helpless Kurt watched.
The finale ended on an ambiguous note for Jane, and it was unclear whether the couple truly remained together after the finale.
In an interview with TVLine, creator Martin Gero revealed that the finale is up for audience interpretation:
''We wanted it to be a bit of a Rorschach test, and I can’t believe how effective it is. Fifty percent of the people [who saw the finale ahead of time] think she’s definitely alive, and 50 percent of the people think she’s definitely dead. We wanted it to be everything for everybody.''
