Bloodaxe is about to be the next big Norse epic, and now Marc Rissmann has officially joined its cast. The historical series from Amazon MGM Studios will follow the legendary Viking raider Erik Bloodaxe, played by Xavier Molyneux, and his powerful wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, played by Jessica Madsen.

Rissmann joins the cast, Greycloak, Erik's elder brother, in what promises to be a fierce and emotional journey through loyalty, ambition, and the brutal cost of power.

Marc Rissmann joins Bloodaxe as Greycloak

Marc Rissmann, who is known for his work in The Man in the High Castle and 1883, joins the cast of Bloodaxe as Greycloak, who is the eldest brother of Erik Bloodaxe. His character in the show will add a level of rue for the family and their established dynamic. This will be a story that's overflowing with desire, motivation, and the fight for rule.

The show's official synopsis reads:

"As they fight for the throne of Norway, the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals. With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom — drawing in the ruthless kings of other Scandinavian countries and even a powerful English ruler - the stage is set for a thundering, cataclysmic, compelling and utterly magical new Norse saga."

Set during a time when kingdoms fought for survival, upholding their legacies, the show will explore not only Erik's rise to power but also the relationships along the way that have shaped his destiny.

Greycloak, as his brother, would be at the very middle of these relationships and alliances. With Rissmann's track record of portraying layered, complex men, his presence in the series will feel like the perfect fit.

A new Norse tale with the Hirst legacy

Bloodaxe is produced by MGM Television under Amazon MGM Studios and created by Michael and Horatio Hirst (Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla). However, this show isn't a direct sequel to those works. Instead, this one stands on its own.

The show is set decades after Vikings and long before Valhalla. This timeline gives Bloodaxe enough room to breathe and tell its own story while acknowledging the projects that came before.

Morgan O'Sullivan, Steve Stark, Arturo Interian, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, and Fred Toye are the executive producers, ensuring that the production combines accurate history with proper storytelling.

Every detail from the costumes to the political rue aims to bring the Norse world to life in a way that feels new yet grounded, and Marc Rissmann's addition to the cast only strengthens the core of that vision.

With Bloodaxe, Amazon MGM Studios is setting the stage for a raw, visually stunning Norse saga that stands apart from anything before it. Marc Rissmann's casting as Greycloak adds even more weight to a story already rich with passion and conflict.

If the early details are any sign, the series won't just revisit Viking legends, but it'll reignite them with heart, power, and the pulse of a timeless brotherhood.
