Boston Blue, the Blue Bloods spin-off series, has added another star to its ensemble, ER fame Gloria Reuben.

Gloria Reuben is most famously known for ER, where she played the role of Jeanie Boulet, which also earned her two consecutive Emmy nominations in 1997 and 1998.

Reuben is the recent addition to the Donnie Wahlberg-led spin-off series, where she will play the role of Mae Silver, a Boston district attorney.

According to Variety, Gloria Reuben's official character description reads as follows:

''The widow of a judge who was murdered on the courthouse steps, Mae is the matriarch of a blended family of law enforcement professionals: her daughter Lena is a Boston Police Department detective, and her stepdaughter Sarah is the police superintendent. Her son Jonah is a rookie cop. Mae is accustomed to making decisions and standing by them.''

Boston Blue is the upcoming spin-off series to CBS' American police procedural Blue Bloods, which ran for 14 seasons and concluded in December 2024.

Boston Blue: Gloria Reuben joins Blue Bloods spin-off series

Blue Bloods remains a beloved procedural, which follows three generations of the Reagan family serving in the police force. The success of the parent series paved the way for its spin-off, which will be led by Wahlberg's Detective Danny Reagan.

While Danny was an NYPD Detective in the parent series, he will take a new job with the Boston Police Department in the spin-off, and will be partnered up with Lena Silver, who will be played by Sonequa Martin-Green.

While the Reagan family ruled the law enforcement scene in Blue Bloods, the Silver family is equally important in Boston Blue.

Gloria Reuben has joined Boston Blue as the Silver matriarch, and her character description somewhat parallels Tom Selleck's Commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods.

Reuben has also starred in Mr. Robot, Elsbeth, Cloak & Dagger, Falling Skies, Raising the Bar, and many more projects.

In addition to Reuben, Wahlberg, and Green, the spin-off series has also cast Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, Lena's grandfather, and Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Lena's stepsister.

While the spin-off series is slowly building its own ensemble cast, fans are excited to see the parent series cast return. Talking to Parade, Wahlberg teased that some of the Reagan family members could potentially appear in a cameo:

"Now, it's just Danny going to this new world, but I can't say a lot about it — but I could say, if he's a Reagan, it will never be just Danny. There'll always be a Reagan a phone call away. And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn't abandon those traditions."

While Boston Blue doesn't have a release date yet, it was reported that the series will likely be released in late 2025.
