In an unexpected turn of events, the eighth season of 9-1-1 has already shifted gears to distinguish itself from the preceding seven seasons. I was earlier under the impression that 9-1-1 is that kind of a show which wouldn't go to the extent of killing its primary characters, but lo and behold! I guess all that is changed now, for better or for worse.
With the recent death of Bobby Nash, the latest season of 9-1-1 has veered off into a completely separate direction than that which was typically the case. There's also the fact that Bobby's death has created shockwaves all across the universe of the show, and this was evident most recently in the kitchen fight between two of the show's most connected characters, i.e., Buck and Eddie.
Here's everything that you need to know.
9-1-1 season 8 episode 17 featured a tone-shifting fight between Buck and Eddie
Often fondly referred to as Buckie, the two characters of Buck and Eddie, played by Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman, respectively, share a special bond on 9-1-1 for the longest time. The two have been an integral part of each other's lives and have just fallen short of being as close as romantic partners often are. While the latest episode of the show was titled Don't Drink The Water, it showcased a particularly moving fight between Buck and Eddie that otherwise wouldn't have turned out the way it did if Bobby were still alive.
The bone of contention between Buck and Eddie in the latest episode turned out to be the latter's new job offer of working at the firehouse in El Paso. In another set of circumstances, this fight would have come across as hilarious to a certain extent. However, in the wake of Bobby's death, both Buck and Eddie weren't seemingly in a better place mentally. While Eddie lashed out, stating that people were walking on eggshells around him, and were accusing him of making Bobby's death about himself, Buck tried his best to be defensive, claiming that it was he alone who truly appreciated the loss of Bobby.
Ryan Guzman speaks about Buck from 9-1-1
Stark sat down with TheWrap for an exclusive interview during which he shed some light on the character of his on-screen counterpart, i.e., Buck, played by Oliver Stark. When asked about Buck's reaction to Eddie leaving L.A. to go back to Texas earlier this season, Guzman noted:
"Buck’s the type of person who holds people close to his heart. The 118 is definitely close to his heart, whether it be Bobby, Eddie or Chimney, or any of the characters. That’s his family, because we’ve all seen his tumultuous life with his real family. But he’s going through a lot with Maddie being kidnapped and Eddie moving and kind of taking the mat from underneath his feet."
9-1-1 season eight airs new episodes exclusively on ABC and FOX.
