We fell in love with Netflix's Boots and were left wanting more! Vera Farmiga plays THE overprotective mother in the queer Marines show, which is headed by Miles Heizer of 13 Reasons Why. This groundbreaking show pairs military satire with a coming-of-age story.
But, Season 1 left us gazing at a list of mysteries. The finale plowed the way for a second season, from Cam Cope's destiny to Sergeant Sullivan's last shot. Even though Boots season 2 hasn't been confirmed by Netflix yet, the success and ratings of the show suggests a renewal is almost certain.
Here are five questions Season 2 needs to answer in Boots Season 2.
Answers we need from Boots Season 2
1. Will Cam and Ray actually get deployed?
The couple we didn't realize we needed (Cam Cope and Ray McAffey) are officially Marines after surviving the boot camp. Yet, their futures are uncertain. Fans wonder if they will be sent into combat or tied to specialized training in the United States as the timeline now gets closer the Gulf War.
Given the action and realistic feel of the show, they may have to contend with their internal conflicts on top of to the battlefield in the next season.
2. Can Barbara Cope handle her son’s new life?
Boots' cornerstones is Barbara Cope, played by Vera Farmiga. She is a mother who struggles with pride and fear. It was heartbreaking to watch her son enlist at a time when being gay could have ended his career.
Barbara needs new coping mechanisms after being expelled from her support group for pretending that Cam is dead. Her love for her son and the silence that results from his secret could be handled in Season 2.
3. What really happens to Major Wilkinson?
One of the most tragic subplots was the romance between Major Wilkinson and Sergeant Sullivan. The military's hypocrisy was exposed when it was revealed that Wilkinson was facing court-martialing for being gay.
However, viewers never found closure. Is he let go? Imprisoned? Broken but free? What happens to him must be shown in Boots Season 2.
4. Will Cam find love (or danger) in secret?
Poor Cam has endured enough drills to win a medal. A spark between him and fellow recruit Jones was hinted at in Season 1, but it quickly died.
Cam's eyes, however, tell us that his story is far from over. It would be risky to have a romance in Boots Season 2, but isn't that what makes this show so exciting? The tone of the show may be determined by Cam's next chapter, regardless of whether he experiences heartbreak or love.
5. Did Sergeant Sullivan make it out alive?
Sergeant Sullivan gave Cam his radio before vanishing into the fog. Was it surrender, flight, or something else? Long before the world was prepared to listen, the show alluded to the mental health crisis queer soldiers faced and left it open-ended.
Season 2 might finally tell us what happened to him and be a reminder of how essential these kinds of stories are.
There is still a long way to go in this story, so rewatch Season 1 on Netflix and hope the streamer makes the right choice!
