Bob Odenkirk's portrayal of Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman on AMC's Breaking Bad and its prequel Better Call Saul is nothing short of brilliant. His role in the franchise not only made him a household name but also earned him several awards and critical acclaim.

But did you know that Bob Odenkirk played a crooked lawyer long before he became Saul Goodman in the Breaking Bad franchise? Yes, you heard that right. Almost twelve years earlier, he played on a nearly identical role in a cult comedy show, Mr. Show with Bob and David. In a sketch of Mr. Show, Bob Odenkirk played Don Pratt, an eccentric lawyer.

Bob Odenkirk's role in Mr. Show caught the attention of Breaking Bad's creator Vince Gilligan. In an interview with Movies Flicker, Gillian revealed that he used to love watching the HBO show. He said,

"First appearance by Mr. Bob Odenkirk, who is a pleasure to work with, and we are lucky to have him. He is brilliant. I am speaking for Peter and myself.. We used to love.. I mean I used to love watching Bob and David Cross as his partner on Mr. Show, the HBO show."

Bob Odenkirk is a true all-rounder- he evolved from a comedian and screenwriter to an acclaimed actor and producer. Some of his projects as a writer during his early career days include SNL, The Ben Stiller Show, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, to name a few.

In 1995, he teamed up with his pal and The Ben Stiller Show's writer, David Cross, for an HBO sketch comedy show called Mr. Show with Bob and David. It spanned across four seasons and went off air after almost four years. This show features several sketches, guest appearances, in addition to the hilarious tidbits by Bob Odenkirk and David Cross.

In one of the sketches from Mr. Show Season 3, Bob Odenkirk played Don Pratt, an incapable yet witty 'lawyer' who keeps on uttering and reassuring others by saying, 'I am not a lawyer'.

In the hilarious sketch, he introduces himself as,

"Hi, I'm Don Pratt, and I want to help you with anything I can do chores listen to your stories, or just mess around with you. We can rent a video, clean out a back room, or act out the lyrics to popular songs on the radio. I'll do anything with you that you want that is legally allowed."

Nonetheless, Bob Odenkirk's Pratt embodies the show's offbeat humor. Though his character is quite different from the sharp lawyer that he played in the Breaking Bad franchise.

Around twelve years after Mr. Show premiered on HBO, Bob Odenkirk joined the cast of Breaking Bad Season 2. Odenkirk debuted as the clever and manipulative lawyer Saul Goodman in Episode 8, 'Better Call Saul'.

Other projects of Bob Odenkirk include The Bear, Glengarry Glen Ross, and the upcoming film The Room Returns to name a few.
