Revolving around the Bridgerton family, their friends, and the many turmoils of love, the show gained immense popularity. Bridgerton Season 3 was especially much-awaited because it focuses on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Fans had been waiting for this love story for a long time since Season 2 left us guessing about their connection.
The season gave fans hopes of romance, conversations between the characters, and, of course, the usual ups and downs that make the show so addictive. People were ready to root for them and see how their story goes.
But when the season finally dropped, many fans on Reddit had mixed feelings. Some viewers felt that Colin and Penelope’s story didn’t give them the emotional satisfaction they were hoping for.
Read on to know what fans thought about the season.
Bridgerton Season 3: Colin and Penelope’s story

Colin has always been the adventurous one. He loves traveling to foreign lands and charming everyone he meets. In Season 3, he’s still the same. But something feels missing. He meets up with Penelope again. And the old friendship between them is revived.
That connection slowly grows into love. And fans finally get the moment they’ve been waiting for when Polin (as the fans like to call them) share a kiss.
When Penelope starts getting potential callers or suitors, Colin gets jealous. But things get complicated quickly when her secret identity as Lady Whistledown is revealed. However, eventually, they fight all odds and end up getting married.
Fans on Reddit feel like their storyline was rushed. They think Colin and Penelope deserved more screen time and a bit more exploration. According to the fans, their romance had so much potential. But the season only gave it limited attention. This left some viewers wishing they could see some more moments between the couple.
One Reddit user, BridgertonStan4Ever, wrote, in part:
"After eagerly waiting through two entire seasons, we were all looking forward to finally seeing the development of Penelope and Colin's relationship. However, it feels like the show didn’t deliver as much as we hoped it would. One of the most crucial points of disappointment this season is the limited focus on Penelope and Colin. After the buildup in previous seasons, we were expecting their story to take center stage and be as engaging and thorough as Daphne and Simon’s or Anthony and Kate’s."
Another user, AbacaxiLovesOranges, was too heartbroken to even watch Bridgerton Season 4:
"Crap! I don’t think I’ll watch the next season. This is so painful. I just read an article yesterday saying that people actually grieve when their favorite TV show ends. I get it."
"It feels like it was more important for them to prepare the other siblings seasons rather than focus on the main couple when you should be able to do both?"
One user, ThoughtsInHere, didn't like how Colin was portrayed in the show as compared to the book:
"I was also disappointed with the idea that Pen ALWAYS has to struggle to be loved and respected for who she is. Is no one (beside her mother) in awe of what she accomplished in secret for so long? Fact is that Colin was very proud of her in the book, but this season portrayed him as immature and petulant. So much so that I kind’a wanted Pen to just reject him outright. It also annoyed me how much time the show spent on Benedict’s and Francesca’s character development when Colin was the one who needed to “grow up.” My eyes rolled so hard when Benedict selfishly left Pen/Colin’s wedding reception. Bfr! 🙄"
All of these fans’ reactions show just how much they care about Colin and Penelope. Some must have enjoyed their journey. But these fans felt the season didn’t give the duo the attention they deserved. Especially, according to them, as compared to the book, Colin and Penelope's story fell flat. Viewers wanted a slower and more rounded exploration of their love.
Bridgerton Season 3 might have given its fans some really exciting adventures and drama. But for Penelope and Colin, fans clearly wanted more time to savor every moment.
