Bridgerton Season 4 is around the corner.

The plot for this season is driven by Julia Quinn's book, An Offer From a Gentleman, and tells the story of Benedict Bridgerton (played by Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (played by Yerin Ha). They meet at a grand ball event, and the episodes shall unfold how their story goes.

Even though we don't know much about this couple, showrunner Jess Brownell revealed what awaits Penelope. Yes, the protagonist from Season 3. She hinted that she might have to face some challenges in Bridgerton Season 4. But this is not really surprising because her identity as Lady Whistledown is not something easy to deal with.

She has faced some issues in the past and might have to bear more consequences in the forthcoming episodes.

Penelope in Bridgerton Season 4: The showrunner's verdict

Penelope has gone through drastic character development since the very first season of Bridgerton. First, she is introduced as a timid wallflower, but she also has another identity. She writes for a pamphlet that covers social standpoints of everyone in the town, under the pen name Lady Whistledown. The anonymous authorship even lets her praise/criticize the Queen through her ink.

Brownell said about Penelope in Bridgerton Season 4:

Big season for Penelope, because she finally came out as Lady Whistledown, so she's having to navigate what it's like being a gossip columnist when the people you're writing about know you're the one writing about them.

As we have seen in the previous three seasons, Penelope grows gradually. She stops shrinking and starts owning the space she takes up. She is more confident in the last season than ever.

Eloise learns the truth about Lady Whistledown, and that discovery cuts deep. The trust breaks, and conversations between the duo turn sharp. The friendship shifts in a way that feels very real.

Still, time does its work, and by the end of the second season, the bond finds its way back, not because everything is fixed, but because both women choose to understand each other again.

Penelope and Colin

The last season focused on her relationship with Colin. But it was one of those sweet friends-to-lovers dynamics. Colin was not 'the chosen one,' but fate brought them together as they connected slowly but eventually. As Penelope had a makeover in Season 3, she altered her wardrobe, replacing mismatched pastels with moody shades that made her stand out.

She was determined to find a suitor and get away from home. Colin stepped up as a confidante to set her up with a suitable match. In the process, she and Colin connected in a not-so-platonic way. They soon confessed their feelings to each other. By the end of the season, they got married and have an adorable kid together.

As of Bridgerton Season 4, the showrunner teased:

Colin is there to support her, but it's going to put pressure on each of them for sure.

The statement came as a relief for fans who have shipped the couple in season 3. Colin has always been supportive of Penelope, and his companionship might ease her struggles to an extent. Yet the question still lingers among fans whether the upcoming struggles create a distance between them.
