Veteran actor Jason Isaacs, who famously portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the original Harry Potter films, has expressed appreciation for HBO's latest casting choice for the iconic role in its upcoming Harry Potter TV reboot.

Johnny Flynn, recognized for his roles in Emma and Lovesick, will portray Lucius Malfoy, while Lox Pratt is cast as his son, Draco Malfoy. As a result, the upcoming Harry Potter series is coming to life with a fantastic ensemble cast, featuring actors such as Bel Powley as Petunia and Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley. Katherine Parkinson is set to play Molly Weasley, the matriarch of the Weasley family, according to reports.

After the announcement, Isaacs posted a heartfelt video on Instagram, expressing his full support for Flynn’s casting. He described the actor as absolutely “brilliant” for the role. Isaacs also highlighted his connection to Flynn by noting that he had collaborated with the talented actor in the 2021 war drama Operation Mincemeat. Here is what Isaacs said about the casting for Mr. Malfoy in the new Harry Potter series

In a recent Instagram video, Jason Isaacs reacted to Johnny Flynn being cast in the role he played for so long in the original Harry Potter. He also noted that the actor is a "brilliant musician."

I just heard that the great Johnny Flynn with be playing Mr. Malfoy in the new HBO TV series, which is sensational news for Harry Potter fans, as I want it because Johnny is a brilliant actor. Irritatingly, he's a brilliant musician as well, and a really lovely guy...and I can't wait to see what he comes up with. Johnny, if you're watching this, enjoy yourself.

Isaacs stated that no other actor could have been better suited for the iconic and demanding role and that he is pleased to finally pass on the baton.

A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…

Therefore, the person who originally brought Lucius Malfoy to life in the Harry Potter films has expressed that Johnny Flynn has his full support to assume the role in HBO’s upcoming series adaptation.

Isaac's praise is significant because it comes from someone who truly understands acting and the role; therefore, it is not just a fan's perspective but also grounded in personal experience. Having shared credits on the same film, Isaacs is well aware of Flynn's craft and trusts him with the role on a professional level as well.

Earlier, Isaacs, being absent from the project, expressed mixed feelings about the reboot; therefore, this video is a gracious acceptance and passing of the baton to someone equally capable.

The veteran actor, during his iconic role, had to fight to preserve his interpretation of Lucius Malfoy's accent, as the director thought it was a bit too much. This illustrates how personally connected he was to the role, and his enthusiasm for witnessing someone new perform it is commendable.
