Butterfly star Daniel Dae Kim shares his feelings on coming back to action series after a long break

Speaking about his return to action with Butterfly, Kim shared that it wasn’t as easy as it used to be. He said:

“It felt stiff and achy at first. It’s been a while since I’ve done a physically demanding role like this.”

Despite the difficulties, he embraced the process. He began preparing a month before filming, alongside co-star Reina Hardesty, who plays his daughter Rebecca in the series.

Kim added:

“I’m proud that I still do most of my own stunts. It takes effort, but it makes the scenes feel real.”

Daniel Dae Kim’s career in theater, television, and movies has been lengthy and fruitful. As Jin-Soo Kwon in Lost, he became well-known across the world, receiving accolades for both his acting and the character’s emotional depth.

Later, he played Chin Ho Kelly for seven seasons as a main character on Hawaii Five-0. Kim is not just an actor but also an executive producer. The Good Doctor, created by his production firm 3AD, became a worldwide sensation.

Butterfly is based on the graphic novel of the same name. It tells the story of David Jung, whose peaceful existence in South Korea is turned upside down when he becomes the target of a teenage assassin. As per the storyline, Rebecca — the assassin — is his daughter, who believed he had died.

The fact that she was sent to murder him adds emotional weight to their reunion, forcing both to reconsider their history and allegiances. The Mentalist’s Ken Woodruff and novelist Steph Cha co-created the series.
