The much-awaited Season 5 of Amazon Prime Video's super-hit show The Boys is causing buzz, not only because of its final chapter, but also because of the reunion of the Supernatural trio: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins.

Although an indirect crossover from Supernatural, the reunion of these three actors, who were loved by the fans for more than a decade on the legendary CW fantasy series, is being received warmly by fans.

The Boys Season 5 will be released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Production on Season 5 concluded in July 2025, according to an announcement from showrunner Eric Kripke, who took to socials to reveal the bittersweet moment of wrapping last season's production.

According to Kripke, post-production and overall schedules mean the season drops around 14 to 15 months or so following wrap, so, going off of that news, the release should be set for mid-2026. However, no official release date has been announced for the same.

Laz Alonso, who plays Mother's Milk in The Boys, praised the three actors' professionalism and humbleness despite their star status. At FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, Alonso commended the trio for being humble and respectful on set with no air of privilege or entitlement to special treatment.

Speaking with Collider, Alonso said:

“They came in super humble, they came in super like, ‘We're not coming in like, hey we're the Supernatural guys move over, go grab a coffee.’ No, they were so kind, so humble, so giving like, ‘This you guys' world. Thank you for having us in your world now,’ and they were amazing actors to work with.”

Alonso was candid about the often rough filming schedules of The Boys. The series is infamous for gritty action set pieces with elaborate practical effects that sometimes mean physically uncomfortable shoot days. He pointed out that the Supernatural trio took all of this in their stride, keeping up with the intensity and demands required from the veteran regulars.

“The Boys is a tough show… You're gonna get dirty, you're gonna get wet, you're gonna be cold, you're gonna be outside, you're gonna be in the worst weather. If you're covered in blood, it's gonna be in the summer when the flies and the mosquitoes and the bees will attack you.
"And if you're covered in anything wet it's gonna be in the winter so that you can freeze your ass off. They're gonna find a way to make it hell. But they came ready to play, and they weren't expecting any type of different treatment. They came, and they worked hard, and they were in the dirt with us, so I got tons of respect for those guys.”

Deadline reports Jensen Ackles, who joined The Boys as a regular as Soldier Boy from Season 3 onwards, helped pave the way to this reunion. In interviews before the premiere of Season 5, Ackles explained that introducing Padalecki and Collins in the series was part of the natural progression, as creator Eric Kripke wished to collaborate with the actors again.

Ackles told the outlet:

“It was weird. It was like inviting my friends over to somebody else’s house for dinner. I was like, ‘Listen, guys, don’t make me look bad. I got to stay here.’ They were amazing. I can’t wait to talk more about it because it was quite an experience.”

Padalecki added, saying:

“I think at this point in my acting life, I only want to work on projects that I really care about or with people that I really care about, and obviously Eric and I are indelibly connected forever.”
