Paramount+'s Criminal Minds: Evolution has started filming for season 4, ahead of the season 3 finale.

A recent social media post has confirmed that the new season is already in production, bringing back main cast members in their respective roles for season 4.

The show follows the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBI, which uses advanced profiling methods and behavioral analysis studies to create profiles for potential suspects and solve high-profile cases.

Season 3 of the reboot series premiered on May 8, 2025, and is currently releasing episodes weekly.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 4 starts production

A new social media post has confirmed that filming for Evolution Season 4 has begun. The news was shared through a joint Instagram post shared by Criminal Minds and Paramount+'s official accounts.

In addition to this good news, the post also confirms that the main cast and characters will return in the BAU for a new season.

The announcement confirms that Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez), Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis), Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss), AJ Cook (JJ Jareau), RJ Hatanaka (Tyler Green) and Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia) will reprise their characters for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 4.

Season 3 is dropping new episodes every Thursday and is scheduled to conclude on July 10, 2025.

The series has operated on a case-of-the-week format since its premiere, but the reboot series shook things up and followed a serialized narrative, focusing on a connected story through each week.

Criminal Minds: Evolution also introduced new characters, and the reboot has helped create new excitement and provided a larger narrative to the show, with more mystery in a serialized narrative.

Season 3 started filming in August 2024, and the season took about nine months to premiere on Paramount+. However, the reboot series has followed different patterns of filming and release each season, making it difficult to predict when the new season will drop.

However, an early filming update drop before season 3 even wrapped up suggests that Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 4 might arrive earlier than usual or that the season requires more filming time due to a complex storyline.

Earlier, main cast member Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Dr. Spencer Reid, returned in season 3 episode 3 Time to Say Goodbye in a cameo appearance. While Gubler's screen presence as Spencer was limited, fans were excited to see Spencer back once again.

With the main cast confirmed for a new season, it remains to be seen if the makers and cast have new tricks up their sleeves, and if we will get more cameo appearances in the upcoming season.

The ratings and fan appreciation for season 3 were already impressive, and after Paramount+'s latest confirmation, the franchise's fate seems positive, and it might continue for more seasons.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Episode 5 will be released on June 5, 2025.
