In the latest season of the Netflix drama series, Sylvie’s company Agence Grateau is on the verge of a downfall. She is forced to make the decision to close the Rome office and let her team return to Paris.Darren Star, creator of Emily in Paris shared that in the new season, he wanted the characters to navigate through unforeseen circumstances. As per Variety, Star said,“I actually wanted failure to be part of the story… It can’t always be success, success, success. I wanted this Rome chapter, but I also wanted Sylvie to fail because it’s not easy trying to manage a business in two different countries.”What happened to Sylvie’s business in Emily in Paris Season 5?At the end of Emily in Paris Season 4, Marcello’s family will ask Emily (played by Lily Collins) to take over their account and stay in Rome for the same. The team returns to Paris finally, where Sylvie is caught off guard by the revelation that Emily has turned down a full-time potential collaboration with Muratori.Darren Star shared about how Sylvie character evolved this season. Star said,“…This season, I love exploring Sylvie’s insecurities because she’s an intense character, we don’t always get to see behind the curtain of what makes her tick. We’ve only seen her put together, but we don’t see the insecurities and some of the neuroses that are behind the scenes.”But Sylvie’s troubles are far from over in Emily in Paris Season 5. She learns that her husband Laurent’s (played by Arnaud Binard) financial missteps have left Agence Grateau in dire straits. Laurent is unable to pay off his debt, so Sylvie has no choice but to step in. And to Emily’s surprise, Princess Jane (played by Minnie Driver) enters the picture and saves the day for Agence Grateau by becoming an equity partner, which will in turn help Sylvie from the financial turmoil. Star said,“…She bit off a little more than she could chew. But also, I think this season, the storyline starts in Rome and does continue in Paris and then ends in Venice. It wasn’t like the storyline in Rome ended and then in Paris, we’re just off to something completely different.
