CBS has renewed Sheriff Country for Season 2.

This means more time in Edgewater as Morena Baccarin will return as Sheriff Mickey Fox. The renewal came very early since only a few episodes of Season 1 have aired.

The renewal also affects the Fire Country universe. Sheriff Country is the first spin-off of Fire Country. CBS now airs both shows on Friday nights, airing back-to-back.

With Sheriff Country getting Season 2, and Fire Country already in Season 4, CBS clearly plans to keep this franchise running for many years.

CBS renews Sheriff Country Season 2: Release window, cast, and what it means for Fire Country

CBS renewed Sheriff Country Season 2 on December 3, 2025. It was renewed alongside another new show, Boston Blue, according to Deadline.

Both shows were renewed after only six episodes since they earned good ratings. CBS also wanted to steady its fall schedule. The media outlet quoted the President of CBS Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach, as saying:

“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming. These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera.”

When will Sheriff Country Season 2 be released?

CBS has not shared an exact date yet. But the network confirmed Sheriff Country Season 2 will return in the 2026–2027 TV season. Reports say that if the show follows the same pattern, Season 2 will likely premiere in fall 2026.

Season 1 first aired on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The next week, it moved to its regular 8 p.m. slot.

After that, Fire Country airs at 9 p.m. This creates a two-hour “Edgewater block.” One show focuses on firefighters. The other focuses on the sheriff’s department. This schedule has helped boost CBS’s Friday-night ratings. It is one big reason the network renewed the show so quickly.

Who is expected to return in Sheriff Country Season 2?

Sheriff Country Season 2 casting is not fully confirmed yet. But the main cast is expected to return. This is because the show focuses on family drama.

Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox: She is the tough sheriff of the town. She deals with crime, family problems, and her past.

Christopher Gorham as Travis Fraley: He is Mickey’s ex-husband. He is a lawyer. His work often connects to Mickey’s cases.

Michele Weaver as Deputy Cassidy Campbell: She is a key deputy. She is also Travis’s current girlfriend. This creates more tension at work.

Matt Lauria as Nathan Boone: He is Mickey’s trusted second-in-command.

W. Earl Brown as Wes Fox: He is Mickey’s ex-con father. He grows marijuana. His past crimes keep putting the family in danger.

Amanda Arcuri as Skye Fraley: She is Mickey and Travis’ daughter. She is newly sober. She is trying to rebuild trust with both parents.

Sheriff Country Season 1 also had crossover characters from Fire Country. These included Bode Leone, played by Max Thieriot. They also included Sharon Leone, played by Diane Farr. And Manny Perez, played by Kevin Alejandro.

These appearances showed that both shows take place in Edgewater. They also share the same family connections. Because the two shows are so closely linked, more crossovers in Season 2 feel very likely. Filming in different Canadian cities may make this harder. But fans still expect the shows to mix again.

On the production side, Sheriff Country is made by many of the same people as Fire Country. These include Max Thieriot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater. They also include Matt Lopez and Jerry Bruckheimer’s team.

Because the same creators are involved, Season 2 will likely feel very similar in tone to the rest of the franchise. The show will continue to focus on: Everyday heroes, messy family relationships, and dangerous emergencies in a small town.

Meanwhile, the biggest question for fans is how this affects Fire Country. The answer right now is clear. The franchise is doing very well. Fire Country has already been renewed for Season 4, which premiered on October 17, 2025. New episodes air on Fridays on CBS. They also stream on Paramount+.

CBS renewed Season 3 in 2024. This confirmed the show as a key part of the 2024–2025 lineup. Season 4 is still airing now. Episode 7, titled Best Mom in the World, will return after a short break. More episodes will air into early 2026.

The early renewal of Season 2, along with Fire Country’s success, shows one thing. CBS sees the Edgewater universe as a long-term franchise. It is being treated like NCIS and FBI.
