When it first premiered on The WB in 1996, 7th Heaven was an instant hit. 7th Heaven chronicled the ups and downs of Reverend Eric Camden, played by Stephen Collins, and his large family consisting of his wife and several children. As per a recent report by Variety magazine, a reboot of 7th Heaven is in its early stages of development after it was greenlit by CBS Studios.

While certain sources have claimed that the 7th Heaven reboot wouldn't feature any of the original cast members in prominent roles and might veer off in a direction separate from the original show, it has been confirmed that Jessica Biel would be serving as one of the executive producers of the show.

Here's everything that you need to know.

What's the latest buzz about the 7th Heaven reboot?

As mentioned earlier, the 7th Heaven reboot is still in its nascent stages of development. Therefore, there's not much information about the upcoming show. It can be expected that CBS is still fine-tuning and working out the deal details that bring the reboot show to life. As of now, there isn't a potential release date, and we don't know where the show will premiere.

Apart from Jessica Biel, Anthony Sparks would be contributing to the show as the executive producer. Biel is producing the show under the banner of her own company, Iron Ocean, in association with Michelle Purple. Alongside the two of them, DeVon Franklin has come on board as the third executive producer, representing Franklin Entertainment.

While the relevance of the reboot might be up for debate until the show proves itself to the contrary, it might be speculated that the reboot would garner audience approval in the absence of any major show that hinges on an extended family. Sources have further revealed that the reboot would consider a diverse cast and therefore might be slated for a wide spectrum of performances, which might just work in its favour.

Jessica Biel opens up about her time on the original show

The original show debuted on The WB (now known as CW) and was created by Brenda Hampton. The show aired for an extended eleven seasons and consisted of nearly two hundred and fifty episodes. The show also proved to be one of the most popular shows for the network back then. Speaking in an exclusive interview with People magazine, Jessica Biel reflected on her time on the original show:

"What I remember most, probably, is the camaraderie of all the kids."

Biel then went on to reveal her working relationship with co-actor Beverly Mitchell, who played Lucy Camden:

"I say this with all the love in the world — because I love her — she was tough, man, I pushed her buttons. It was such a sisterly relationship. I think I did it because I looked up to her and I loved her. We got under each other's skin in the best way possible."

7th Heaven is available for streaming on Paramount+.
