Hulu's latest sports comedy series Chad Powers made its double-episode premiere on the platform on September 30, 2025.

Riding on the high of his success from Top Gun: Maverick and Netflix's Hit Man, Glenn Powell stars as a narcissistic college football quarterback (Russ Holliday) who assumes the titular identity and infiltrates a college team through deception.

The show is based on Eli Manning's viral skit for ESPN where he went undercover in Penn State University football tryouts as a walk-on named Chad Powers. Three years later, Powell adopts Manning's namesake for this Hulu sports series.

The morally ambiguous premise and a deceptive protagonist are bound to make parents wonder: Is Chad Powers suitable for kids? The simple answer is no. The Hulu series is rated TV-MA and contains strong language and profanity, making it inappropriate for a young audience.

More on this in our story.

Chad Powers parents guide: The Hulu sports comedy series is TV-MA rated

The Hulu comedy series boasts a quirky premise and combined with its sports genre, it is bound to pop up on your kids' streaming devices. But is Chad Powers suitable for kids? The answer is no because it is TV-MA rated in the US, meaning only fit for mature audiences. The comedy series is rated M18 (18+) in Singapore and 16+ in Spain.

TV-MA rating is usually awarded to shows that contain one or more elements among sexual content (S), coarse or crude language (L) or violence (V). These guidelines help parents make informed choices about their kids' streaming activities and decide what type of content is fit for their viewing.

While Chad Powers is labelled as a sports comedy series, don't expect a light-hearted show centred around sports, as the Hulu series explores various heavy themes like masculinity, bullying and even features physical and crude humour, unfit for a young audience.

Things to look out for before streaming the Hulu series

The thing to look out for most before letting your children stream Chad Powers on Hulu is the show's strong language and profanity. Since the show is centred around football, adrenaline runs high and the characters often use swear and cuss words in the episodes. Expect strong language like f**k and sh*t peppered through the show's narrative. This is one of the strongest factors to consider before you stream the sports comedy series with your young ones.

While the show does not feature explicit nudity, you will find crude humour and s*xual jokes in abundance. Expect references to 18+ sites, OnlyFans and characters making jokes at the expense of each other's body parts. Suggestive content and s*xual innuendos are another factor to look out for before you make this your next family binge.

The Hulu series does not feature heavy smoking or drinking, but characters drink alcohol in social gatherings. Expect a depressed Russ to drink alone at his home and characters involved in casual drinking at bars.

Lastly, parents should look out for physical comedy in the Hulu series, which often pivots to violence. Expect mild sports collisions, heckling, roughhousing and scuffles on the football field.

Chad Powers features a morally corrupt protagonist who literally deceives his way into a sport, which might set a bad example for your children. The dark comedic themes around identity, redemption, honesty and public humiliation make it a heavy watch and not suitable for a young audience.
