Jurassic World: Chaos Theory still officially counts as part of the canon of the Jurassic franchise. Showrunner Scott Kreamer has confirmed its alignment with the continuity of Jurassic World Dominion and also stated that the events in the upcoming fourth season are going to happen in parallel to the film’s events.

The animated series, which tells the story of the Nublar Six six years after Camp Cretaceous, has been declared part of the official timeline, even though Jurassic World Rebirth, which is set even further in the future, has been released.

Kreamer’s clarification came in the light of fan speculation regarding the series’s canonical standing, after the theatrical release of Jurassic World Rebirth, which some took as a possible timeline reset. However, the co-creator insisted that Chaos Theory is “absolutely” still within the canon, and even mentioned that the events of Jurassic World Dominion are depicted in upcoming Season 4 “from different points of view”.

This overlap of storytelling confirms the series’ belonging to the larger franchise continuity, especially through the return of Dr. Henry Wu, who is voiced by Greg Chun and whose presence corresponds to the timeline of the series with that of Dominion. The fourth and last season, which will be available on November 20, 2025, will show the Nublar Six tracking down a global dinosaur-smuggling operation in Biosyn Valley, which is directly related to the film's core issues.

Scott Kreamer, co-creator and showrunner of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, has confirmed the series’s place within the official Jurassic World canon, dispelling doubts raised by the release of Jurassic World Rebirth. During New York Comic Con 2025, Kreamer pointed out the fact that the animated series is still canonical. He put great stress on the narrative alignment with Jurassic World Dominion, and rather than being a new film that overwrites the previous one.

For the fans who have been following the Nublar Six since Camp Cretaceous, this confirmation is very important, as it guarantees their story will continue to be part of the franchise's official history.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Kreamer said:

“Our series runs kind of parallel, especially season 4, along with Dominion. So, Rebirth is still off in the future from Chaos Theory. We're still going to be revisiting a lot of things from different points of view that you see in Dominion.”

The parallel structure can take over the world-building done previously in Dominion, especially with respect to the worldwide distribution of the dinosaurs and the moral issues of living together with humans. Kreamer specified that the series would be looking back at a lot of things from the different viewpoints that you see in Dominion, indicating a more intensive probing of events that were just faintly touched on in the film.

The addition of Dr. Henry Wu, one of the most important characters from the movies, is another indication of this bond, since the animated series not only tells stories with the movies but also clearly connects them through the presence of this character.

Meanwhile, Kreamer kept the anticipation for a live-action crossover at a manageable level, acknowledging the high stakes of the final season. When asked about the possibility of the animated characters appearing in live-action, he said “anything’s possible,” but added that ensuring the survival of all six main characters would be “a big ask” given the dangers they face.

Jurassic World storyline and franchise evolution

The Jurassic World franchise has grown a lot since the film that relaunched the series in 2015. It has moved from a single island-based story to a worldwide investigation of the humans’ interaction with genetically engineered dinosaurs.

Then, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory opened up new horizons and followed the Nublar Six, Darius, Ben, Yaz, Sammy, Kenji, and Brooklynn as they grappled with the repercussions of dinosaurs cohabiting the Earth with humans. The group gets together after six years of the Camp Cretaceous events to unearth a worldwide conspiracy, which is about dinosaur smuggling. This storyline directly relates to the themes of Jurassic World Dominion and is quite thrilling.

The series acts as a direct sequel to Camp Cretaceous, ensuring character continuity and the presence of unresolved storylines, e.g., Brooklynn’s surprise survival after being assumed dead due to an Allosaurus attack. Chaos Theory delves into the issue of dinosaur rights, corporate greed, and environmental conscience more profoundly in the context of the Jurassic World franchise.

The Nublar Six are seen fighting on behalf of both humans and dinosaurs against the forces of exploitation. The setting of the show moves from one continent to another, starting from Texas, going through Senegal to Italy, depicting the worldwide scale of the dinosaur phenomenon that was already set up in Dominion.

Key characters from the movies, Dr. Henry Wu and Soyona Santos, for instance, show up in the series, thereby establishing narrative cohesion among different media. The placement of Biosyn Valley as a key area in Season 4 brings Chaos Theory even clearer to Dominion’s plot line since both tales investigate the role of genetic companies in forming the world post-Jurassic.
