Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently filming in New York, according to Entertainment Weekly. A Variety report recently confirmed that the second season of Born Again would feature the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones.

Jessica Jones was last seen headlining the third season of her solo series in 2019, and it was not until last Tuesday's upfront presentation that Ritter was officially confirmed to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Her return has fans theorizing that Luke Cage and Iron Fist, also known as Danny Rand, the other two Defenders heroes, might also return. Now, Jessica Jones' return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 seems closer, as Krysten Ritter, who plays the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has begun training with her fellow actor Charlie Cox. This was confirmed by their trainer, Naqam Washington.

Naqam Washington seems to be one of the popular fitness trainers among Hollywood celebrities. His Instagram bio reads:

"Transformational Fitness Coach! Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Derek Hough, Cassie, Ben Barnes"

Apart from the celebrities mentioned above, Washington is also currently training Welson Bethel, who is returning as Ben Poindexter/Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

Now, the latest actor from cast of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 to come under Naqam Washington's tutelage is Krysten Ritter. The trainer posted a picture of himself, Daredevil actor Charlie Cox, and Ritter on Instagram along with the following caption:

"I am the safest man in NY! Protected by Daredevil and Jessica Jones! Hitting the gym after filming all day! I love my job! Happy and grateful to be part of this process!"

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is filming full throttle and fans are eagerly waiting for March 2026, when the new season is expected to stream on Disney+.

Jessica Jones' Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 return explained

The return of Krysten Ritter in Born Again Season 2 was confirmed at the upfront presentation event of Disney for advertisers in New York last Tuesday. On her part, the actress has expressed her happiness upon returning to the MCU in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. According to Variety, she said:

“It’s so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and ‘The Defenders’ and now joining the MCU. I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!”

Krysten Ritter's return as Jessica Jones has given credence to the theory that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 might see a secret reunion of The Defenders, the street-level superhero team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Entertainment Weekly interviewed showrunner Dario Scardapane after the Season 1 finale, where journalist Nick Romano asked:

"With this final scene that we get with Matt and everybody in Josie's, people have been gravitating toward the line that he says about needing to assemble an army to take down Fisk. The first thing that pops into our heads is Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Danny Rand. Are those characters in your head as you map out season 2 and the future of Daredevil?"

To this, showrunner Scardapane responded:

"Without giving too much away... when you're working in what I would call the Hell's Kitchen corner of the MCU, those iconic characters are always in your mind. The thing is that — and this is kind of hard, I'm trying to thread a needle here — you want to bring in people and relationships and past figures in Matt's life because they help the story, particularly in terms of a story where Fisk has taken over the city. And there is a resistance and a rebellion, so to speak, rising. So there's going to be people, vigilantes, superheroes that are involved in that. There has to be because this is happening to their city."

He went on to say:

"That said, you also want to create a completely organic story for that. So who comes in and why has to be beyond anything earned. So the easiest answer to your question is, yes, those characters that you just listed off are absolutely in my head and everybody's head as we're working. How that manifests itself is both really tricky writing-wise and a pretty closely guarded secret at this point. So I'm being intentionally cagey, but I'm also saying, 'Hell yeah!' in terms of it's something we're thinking about."

Noting Scardapane's use of the word cagey, Romano asked:

"Intentionally...Luke Cage-y?"

The showrunner's answer was:

"Aye! ... There was a silly thing that happened, and I think I should address it: There's a character who picks up Gallo at the end of the show. His name is Luke. That's not Luke Cage. If you look closely, he's about one-third the size of Mike Colter. Everybody's looking for Easter eggs, and there are a few, but that was not one of them."

However, Scardapane was not the only one who commented on the involvement of The Defenders in future MCU projects such as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Executive producer Brad Winderbaum had also hinted at the return of the Defenders in a February 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly. His exact words were:

“I can't say much, but I'll tell you that it's so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox. Obviously we don't have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it.

He explained further:

"It's dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
