On August 19, 2025, HBO announced new casting announcements for the Harry Potter show. As of now, five of the seven Weasley children have been cast in the series, and many hope that the rest of the Weasleys, i.e., Arthur, Bill, and Charlie, are cast soon. While it is unconfirmed if Bill and Arthur will be cast in the first season, it was confirmed that Charlie will indeed appear in the first season.

As mentioned above, in the books, there are seven Weasley Children. The second eldest son, Charlie, did not play a part in the eight movies, barring a few references in the film adaptation of Philosopher's Stone, and a cameo appearance in Prisoner of Azkaban. But HBO's confirmation that Charlie will appear in the series suggests that this adaptation will be faithful to the books.

Charlie plays a small role in the first book, but it does set up his role in the fourth book. Therefore, it is expected that the HBO series will do the same. HBO, while announcing the cast of the Weasley siblings, put out this statement:

"The Burrow is nearly full. Joining our very own Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, we warmly welcome Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, Gabriel Harland as George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley to the HBO Original Series Harry Potter. (Charlie’s in Romania at the moment but will be joining us soon enough...)"

Charlie helps in transporting dragons in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire:

Charlie is a presence that's felt across all seven Potter books, even if he didn't appear in them. But he does appear in three books of the series, Philosopher's Stone, Goblet of Fire, and Deathly Hallows. In the first book, he helps Ron smuggle a baby dragon out of Hogwarts.

While in the book, Charlie sends one of his friends, the HBO show could see the second-oldest Weasley sibling appear on screen instead. It should be noted that Charlie had already graduated from Hogwarts before Ron and Harry started going to Hogwarts. Thus, he is in Romania studying dragons and sends one of his friends to pick up Hagrid's baby dragon.

This small moment can help the people working on the show, setting up Charlie's role as one of the dragon handlers who transport the fire-breathing creature that will be used in the first task of the Triwizard Tournament in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. After the fourth book, he is one of the key members of the Order of the Phoenix who recruits foreign wizards for their cause.

Despite being late, Charlie managed to make it to the Battle of Hogwarts, in which Voldemort was finally killed. Rowling revealed that while he never married or had children, he continued working in his field in Romania after the events of Deathly Hallows.

Despite his little appearances across the seven books, Charlie is a fan-favorite amongst the Harry Potter fandom, and his confirmation has made a lot of fans happy.

Who is playing the Weasley siblings in the HBO show?

As of now, six Weasleys have been cast for the season. These six characters are:

"Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!"
