Wednesdays at NBC call for a new episode of Chicago Fire Season 14 and the latest entry was especially hard for Firehouse 51, who was reeling from the citywide budget cuts and layoffs. The new season was building on this pressing matter but Episode 3 hit too close to home when Mouch and his crew were asked to sit out from their shifts at the last minute. The decision was unfair, affected their paychecks and Chief Pascal was not pleased.
Elsewhere, Kidd was struggling to connect with her foster son and she discussed this matter with her colleagues. While each member of the crew assured her that teenage boys are moody and unpredictable, Kidd desperately wanted to build a strong connection with her foster son. This is when she decides to take him to visit his biological mother, who was admitted in a hospital.
The citywide budget cuts were the main issue prevailing in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 3, but Violet and Chief Pascal came up with smart strategies to overcome them. While Pascal stood up for his crew, Violet brought in a familiar face to build her case.
Here is the complete Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 3 recap.
Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 3 recap: Violet reels with a personal case
When Firehouse 51 was reeling from budget cuts in Chicago Fire Season 14, Episode 3, they received their first call about an ambulance that had turned upside down in the middle of the road. Violet recognized her friend Murphy inside, who was critically injured. Since Murphy and Violet were trained at the Academy together, she knew her capabilities as a paramedic and her driving skills were also exceptional. She was unsure what caused this accident and was adamant about finding out the cause.
This is when she talked to Murphy's partner, who revealed their department is also suffering after the budget cuts. The longer shift hours had drained the paramedics and Murphy fell asleep behind the wheel after pulling off a 24-hour shift. Murphy's partner was not ready to report her but Violet knew something had to be done to end this.
Violet thought about an excellent strategy that would help both firefighters and paramedics. With Paramedic Field Chief Robinson's help, she advocated for firefighters to be redeployed as paramedics since they are already trained in the field. With the CDF reducing their working hours, they could use extra shifts, taking the paramedics' load off their backs. It remains to be seen how Violet's proposal will be materialized in Chicago Fire Season 14.
Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 3 recap: Chief Pascal stands up for his crew
The injustice done to Mouch and his crew in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 3 forces Chief Pascal to take matters into his own hands and he decides to pay a visit to the Deputy District Chief. He was not happy with the way his firefighters were being treated and he wanted to express his displeasure.
At the office, he bumps into Annette Davis, the Mayor's chief of staff, and takes this matter to her. At her office, he expresses his concern for the firefighters and how CFD's layoffs are affecting their paychecks. This is when Annette revealed some big news to him. She informs Pascal that City Hall and CFD are planning to lay off six battalion Chiefs permanently, which will likely solve their budget cuts problem. However, she assures him that Pascal is not one of them.
Annette then went on to praise Pascal for his leadership qualities in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 3. She declared the CDF needs capable and strong leaders now more than ever and even asks him for a drink, which Pascal awkwardly denies.
Pascal later discussed this matter with Severide and he thinks that Annette's invitation was political.
