Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 7, the Fall finale, was titled ''Pierce The Vein.'' NBC's beloved fire procedural has gone on its annual fall hiatus and the mid-season finale left many nail-biting cliffhangers, including a deadly fire with Severide trapped inside.

Making true on his promise, Vasquez stepped up to fill in for Novak as a paramedic and she was awarded a day off. While Vasquez was preoccupied with his father's parole hearing, Violet was there to guide him every step of the way. She knew that Vasquez could be stubborn but she was a patient teacher who taught him how to start an IV and perform various duties as a paramedic.

Here is what went down in the Fall finale of Chicago Fire Season 14.

Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 7 recap: A suspicious high school fire

The major plot thread in the fall finale of Chicago Fire Season 14 was a blazing fire at a local high school. Severide was in the lead and this was the perfect opportunity for Violet to train Vasquez as a paramedic. While the young firefighter was occupied with his father's parole hearing, he proved to be a good student when Violet taught him how to start an IV. He even performed it correctly on a real patient who needed their help.

Severide realized the fire had started just outside the principal's (Mr. Cole) office, which made it a deliberate attack. He even recalled someone standing outside the school, which turned out to be Wyatt, a student who was recently suspended by Mr. Cole for indecent behaviour. Severide called an OFI investigation and Van Meter discovered that there was gasoline in the coffee-making machine, which likely started this fire.

Since Wyatt was the prime suspect in the arson case, Severide and Van Meter went to the boy's place. While Wyatt's father maintained that he was innocent, the student revealed a private Facebook group called "I Hate Mr. Cole,'' which had 83 active members. After it was confirmed that the fire was started remotely through a smart plug and Wyatt was at basketball practice all day, he had a tight alibi and Severide had 83 suspects in the arson case.

Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 7 recap: Budget issues continue

Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 7 continued the budget issues in the CFD. Making good on their previous episode's promise, Chief Pascal and Annette met for a lunch date, which turned into a work thing quickly. Annette’s phone was continuously ringing due to the ongoing budget cuts and teachers' strike. To provide funds for teachers, Annette had to cut funding somewhere else. In a shocking turn, she tells Chief Pascal that Engine 51 is going to be cut permanently.

Elsewhere, Vasquez is shocked to see Ray out of prison. Looks like his parole hearing went well and he was there to get his car back from his son. Since Vasquez did not help Ray get out of prison, he surely holds a grudge against him.

Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 7 recap: Novak gets an alarming call on her off-day

Since Vasquez had stepped up as a paramedic for the day, it was Novak's day off in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 7. However, she got an alarming call from the hospital, informing her that her sister Heidi had passed out at a bus stop. While Novak is clearly concerned for Heidi, she assures her that it was just a reaction to her sleeping tablets, followed by grapefruit juice.

Novak does not buy Heidi's facade and confronts her about falling into the same addiction pattern as their mother.

Back at the firehouse in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 7, Novak opened up about her family with Violet. She revealed how she looked after her siblings after their mother's death, but her family remains dysfunctional. Violet proves to be a loyal friend and advises Novak to spend time with Heidi. The fall finale ended with Novak picking up a wine bottle and visiting Heidi at her place.

In addition to the budget cuts and the fate of Mouch's Engine 51, the Fall finale of Chicago Fire Season 14 concluded on another cliffhanger. The final moments saw Severide and Van Meter at Cole's apartment, trying to figure out the arsonist, when somebody sets another fire on the stairs, trapping Severide and the others.

Chicago Fire Season 14 will return with new episodes in January 2026.
