When Allen MacDonald took over the reins as the showrunner of Chicago Med, he had a certain goal. He wanted to bring old characters who'd left the show back into the ED. When Season 10 started, he stated in a conversation with TV Insider:

"One of the unique opportunities of this One Chicago world is that you can bring these older characters back and have them come through the ED again,"

MacDonald has stayed true to this statement, as viewers witnessed the return of Rachel DiPillo as Dr. Sarah Reese and Mekia Cox as Charles' daughter Robin in Chicago Med Season 10. The return of both of these daughter-figures has been a wake-up call for Charles because although he would think that he's giving his children space and letting them live their lives, in reality, he's just not there for them as their father. These returns, as well as Charles' conversation with Anna, are a reality check for him to start being a better father.

MacDonald revealed that he is not done with his mission to bring back more characters from the past. He refrained from revealing who exactly it is that shall be making a return and said nothing more than the following:

"They just texted me"

Explaining his reasoning behind this mission of bringing back old characters, MacDonald texplained:

"when I was a teenager and I watched the medical show St. Elsewhere, I used to just get so excited when they brought somebody back they hadn’t seen in a long time. And I think there’s a fear in storytelling, television specifically, that if you bring back old characters that you’re kind of going back into the past and not being in the present."

He added:

"But I think life is both. And I think we were successful in telling stories of the present, but I think that in the One Chicago world, it’s completely legitimate to check in on people, characters that we love and we miss, and what fun to see them interact with the new doctors that the audience knows, but they don’t. And so yes, I intend to at least bring back one if not two or more original cast members [from the series premiere] in the next season."

No matter who it is that is going to be brought back to Chicago Med, they are surely going to be a treat to watch after so long.
