Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 3 reveals that the shooter fired the gun when she was being confronted by the security. Will learns that while Owen has survived, he still has a long battle ahead. His injuries are too grave for a surgical reconstruction. Dr. Archer explains that the incident has dented Owen’s right kidney, and since he has a rare abnormality of the kidneys known as ‘horseshoe kidney’, he will need a transplant or must go through dialysis. Will is seen blaming himself for putting Owen in harm’s way, even though it was an unexpected misfortune. He wonders if he should have taken him to the game as he was originally supposed to.

Natalie is shellshocked to learn all this after she comes back to Gaffney Chicago Medical. She starts spiraling into her own harrowing past when Owen’s father, Jeffrey, had died while she was pregnant. Natalie had been in Seattle and is currently pregnant. The heartbreaking incident becomes a turning point in Will and Natalie’s relationship.

Meanwhile the staff hardly had anytime to process the shooting incident as they must take care of incoming patients. As they were about to take the patient, Julian, off life support on his partner’s advice, Lenox stops the procedure since Julian’s parents can only make the decision.

Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 3 also highlights the fact that Natalie was not going to let the setbacks bring her down and instead starts working on plan to get her son back. She suggests donating her own kidney to him, but she is pregnant and a transplant may not be advisable as Will and Dr. Archer point out. Despite being counseled to wait for a donor, Natalie stands her ground and gets tested as well to see if she is a match. And voila! She is. This makes Natalie absolutely determined to go through despite the dangers to her own health.

When Frost asks Julian’s partner about his relationship with the parents, he reveals that Julian had a disturbing childhood and they have been estranged for long time. But here is an unexpected twist, the parents request the doctor to salvage Julian’s sperm before the life support is taken off. But Julian’s partner vehemently opposes this, retelling the abusive childhood his partner had. But due to legalities, Frost and Lenox have choice but to go through with it.

Dr. Asher steps in to make Natalie aware of the risks to her pregnancy if she decides to go through with the surgery. In fact, everyone advises her to reconsider and wait for a donor. But Natalie stands her ground. She wants to save her son and even shows her frustration towards Will, whom she blames for Owen’s condition.

Chicago Med Season 11 episode 3 also hits an unexpected snag when Ripley’s river patient cannot recall anything. Ripley and Charles help the patient regain his memories. Frost meanwhile tries to reason with Lenox about going through with the procedure. Goodwin lets them know that the retrieved sperm will stay in the hospital and the court may not be sympathetic to Julian’s parents.
