NBC’s Chicago PD Season 13 has made its way back to its regular Wednesday night slot on the network. The One Chicago universe has been a staple on television for about a decade now and NBC is gearing up for another successful run of all three procedurals.
The second episode of Chicago PD Season 13 was titled 'Open Wounds', referring to Dante Torres' physical and mental state, who was personally involved in this episode's case.
The Intelligence is officially back and Torres was keeping himself busy when he got a surprise visit from one of his neighbors, Brenda. The woman asked Torres' help to get her husband back, who was abducted in front of her when she went to pick him up from work. Three masked men abducted Ivan and took off with him in a white van. Moreover, soon after Ivan's kidnapping, Brenda was alerted about a withdrawal from her husband's account. She suspects that the kidnappers are after their money and will make a second transaction soon.
Here is the complete Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 2 recap.
Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 2 recap: What's up with Dante Torres?
Fans have been worrying about Dante Torres ever since he was sent undercover in the same juvenile detention center where he was held as a child. Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 2 proved that their worry is for all the right reasons, as Torres has been struggling with bouts of depression ever since he witnessed the brutal murder of one of his informants. Torres was keeping himself busy and continuously drowning himself in work to forget the demons plaguing him.
That is when Brenda approached him about Ivan's recent abduction. Knowing that the police did not care about the people in this part of the town angered Torres and he personally made a trip to the ATM to stop the kidnappers from taking out more money from Ivan's account. This is when he has a run-in with one of the kidnappers, who slashes his arm and leaves him to die. It was only after Voight arrived on the scene that Torres received medical treatment. They concluded that there had been many flash abductions in Torres' neighbourhood in the past and the kidnappers were just after some easy money.
Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 2 recap: A tragic end
As hours passed in Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 2, Brenda's patience was thinning. She refused Torres' help in her husband's case and took matters into her own hands. The kidnappers contacted her and ordered her to bring money in exchange for her husband's life. However, Torres was tailing Brenda and the cops saved her just in time as the kidnapper was about to flee with her money. Ivan was not even brought to the drop site.
Torres realized that another similar abduction had happened in his neighbourhood in the past and the victim managed to survive. Thanks to his help, Torres and Voight were able to track the old paper mill where the victims were stashed but they were late and Ivan was already dead. They got hold of the driver who kidnapped Ivan, who led them to the racist ringleader of this operation.
At last, Torres finally came face-to-face with the real mastermind, Mike Allard, in Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 2. Mike was unlike the other kidnappers. He was an educated CPA but his recent gambling has landed him in a huge debt. Since he could not scam his company, he chose Torres' neighbourhood for his flash abduction operation because he was a racist.
In the final moments of Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 2, Torres was about to shoot Mike, but Kevin Atwater intercepted. While Mike was finally arrested, Torres still had the difficult job of breaking the news of her husband's death to Brenda.
Atwater also noticed that Torres' sutures had come undone and realized that he had been tampering with his wounds to punish him. The title of this episode, 'Open Wounds', was symbolic on many levels and highlighted Torres' physical and mental open wounds in the show. Atwater finally advised him to get a hold of himself and get the proper medical treatment his wounds clearly need.
