Chief of War Episode 3: Release date news, time, streaming details and more

After an eventful two-episode premiere, Chief of War is heading toward deeper conflict and increasing tension.

Created by Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa Sibbett, this series follows Ka'iana, a war chief from Maui in the late eighteenth century, who travels across the world and returns to join King Kamehameha I's campaign to unify Hawai'i, ultimately leading to rebellion.

In the premiere episodes of Chief of War, we see how Ka'iana, the war chief, is manipulated by King Kahekili into joining the war against the Kingdom of O'ahu, led by a young king. It is only when the bloody massacre begins that Ka'iana realizes the King has misled him. He eventually decides to leave the island with his family, but is chased by King Kahekili's men, who want him dead.

In a brutal chase, Ka'iana encounters Ka'ahumanu (the only daughter of a Hawaiian war chief and King Kahekili's sister), which coincides with Taula's prophecy. At the end of the episode, Ka'iana is separated from his family during the chase and is rescued by British sailors, while his family and Ka'ahumanu save a stranded British sailor.

Chief of War Episode 3: Release date and streaming details

Chief of War Episode 3, titled City of Flowers, is set to premiere on August 8, 2025, exclusively on Apple TV+. It will be available to stream starting at midnight ET. The following episodes will be released every Friday until the season finale, scheduled for September 19, 2025.

Chief of War Episode 1 and 2: A quick recap

Chief of War Episode 1 features Ki'ana, a Maui-born warrior, who returns home only to face betrayal. King Kahekili manipulates him with prophecy, honor, and revenge. When Ka'iana leads an attack on O'ahu, he realizes that he has been misled by the King into thinking that they were the enemies. Instead, the residents of O'ahu were innocent people led by a young King. When King Kahekili killed O'ahu's young leader, Ka'iana's faith was shaken. He decided to leave for Maui, but Kahekili understood his change of mind and ordered his men to kill Ka'iana.

In Episode 2 of Chief of War, we meet Ka'ahumanu, the daughter of Moku (a Hawaiian chief) and the sister of King Kahekili. Moku urges his family to move to Hawai'i because, due to the warlike situation, Maui might close its borders. Later, he also reveals that he promised his daughter's hand to a local chief in Hawai'i. Ka'ahumanu wanders off and meets Taula, who predicts her future.

During a tense chase, Ka'iana and Ka'ahumanu cross paths. She helps his family escape to safety while Ka'iana bravely fights off Kahekili's men in a cliffside showdown. Just when all seems lost, British ships arrive—rescuing Ka'iana from death. Meanwhile, Ka'ahumanu and Ka'iana's family assist a lost British sailor.

What to expect from Chief of War Episode 3?

The synopsis of Chief of War Episode 3, as per Apple TV, reads,

"Ka'iana arrives in a strange land. Ka'ahumanu takes her place beside Kamehameha."

Episode 3 hints at a major shift in the series, as shown in the closing scenes of the second episode. Ka'iana, who is on a British boat, may end up in a foreign land, unsure of what lies ahead. Meanwhile, Ka'ahumanu and Ka'iana's family might finally arrive in Hawai'i, where she is to be married to Kamehameha—a union that will likely reshape Hawai'i's future.
