Chief of War Episode 3 recap: City of Flowers

In Chief of War Episode 3, the war momentum shifted, and the episode felt like just the calm before the storm. On O'ahu, King Kahekili's reign turned increasingly sadistic. He poisoned one of the chief's wives because the chief tried to poison him.

Back in Hawai'i, for the first time, we met Kamehameha, a fierce warrior, a true leader, and the nephew of the aging king. In the meeting, Kamehameha impressed the king with his strategic plans for the upcoming war. Meanwhile, Ka'ahumanu's life changed forever when her father, Moku, instructed her to get married to Kamehameha. Moku believed in a prophecy that said Kamehameha would unite the four kingdoms and rule. Ka'ahumanu married Kamehameha despite knowing that she could never bear an heir, as foreseen by Taula, the Prophetess.

Far from home, Ka'iana's search for firearms took him to Zamboanga in the Spanish East Indies. His friend Tony trained him on how to use a musket. A Hawaiian trader, Vai, offered weapons in exchange for exploiting the sandalwood trade. Even though Ka'iana isn't sure of it, it might be the only way out to secure the firearms.

What to expect in Chief of War Episode 4?

With City of Flowers Part II, the story is set for an escalation. Kahekili's misuse of power in O'ahu may spark open rebellion, while Kamehameha's alliance with Ka'ahumanu might alter the political weight. In Zamboanga, Ka'iana faces mounting threats from the opportunists; his path home is now tangled in treachery and trade. Can he save Tony? Can Ka'iana secure the firearms? Can he return to Hawai'i? Will Ka'ahumanu's secret be out?

To know what happens next, watch Chief of War Episode 4 on Friday, August 15, 2025, on Apple TV+.
