While Necar Zadegan has filled Michael Michele's shoes for now, the show has currently paused its filming due to showrunner changes. The production halt began two weeks ago, with the exit of Warren Leight as showrunner. Leight had earlier replaced David Hudgins as showrunner, who departed the series after Michele and director/executive producer Eriq La Salle's respective exits.Following Leight's exit, the show was in talks with Mike Weiss, the showrunner for the flagship series. According to a recent report by Deadline, Weiss has closed this deal and agreed to join the FBI spinoff as showrunner and executive producer and the production will likely resume soon. These types of creative and cast changes are nothing new in the FBI franchise. Recently canceled spin-off FBI: Most Wanted struggled with the same casting changes when lead actor Julian McMahon departed the show after three seasons. While the show managed to run for an additional three seasons, it was canceled by the network earlier this year. Additionally, FBI: International was also canceled after facing the same casting changes. One would say that the flagship series also went through two showrunner changes, like that of its spin-off, before finding its footing on television. However, the show is going strong with its eighth season and has already been renewed for another.CBS has already set a premiere date for FBI's latest spin-off, which suggests the show is on the right track. In addition to Ellis, Gehlfuss, and Zadegan, actress Natalee Linez will also play the series regular role of CIA analyst Gina Rojas. The show is set to debut on CBS on February 23, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET.For the latest scoops on your favorite TV shows and movies, follow SoapCentral.
