Peaky Blinders icon Cillian Murphy recently graced the set of The Graham Norton Show alongside pop music sensation Taylor Swift, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi, and cast members of Tron. During the 50-minute-long star-packed lineup, the audience and host of the show encountered an amusing moment with the Oscar-winning actor (Murph), where he shared his feelings about the infamous Peaky Blinders haircut.
Not only does the BBC crime drama accurately portray events of a post-World War I Birmingham, but also revolutionizes a particular gangster appearance from that era when men wrapped themselves in glazed suits, shiny boots, undercut hair, and razor-studded hats. Though Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) carries the signature Peaky Blinders hairstyle all throughout the Steven Knight show pretty well, the star himself does not seem to be a big fan of it.
On The Graham Norton Show, Cillian Murphy jokingly described the unique haircut saying:
"I mean, it's so disgusting, really."(laughs)
Cillian Murphy finds his famous Peaky Blinders hairstyle "disgusting"
While speaking on The Graham Norton Show about The Immortal Man, Cillian Murphy (who also appeared on the latest Netflix drama Steve) hit a rather heartwarming note for the viewers. The 49-year old star confirmed that the upcoming Peaky Blinders spin-off has already wrapped production (now in post-production stage) and is currently eyeing a 2026 release.
Following the long applause to his confirmation, Graham Norton revisited the one-in-a-million haircut of Thomas Shelby that eventually became a major trend across the globe. The success of the Steven Knight drama not only lies in the impeccable storytelling and star-studded delivery but also in the "Peaky Blinders" way of grooming that eventually turned out to be a fashion statement.
But, as it appears, Cillian Murphy himself is not very fond of the same, not to mention that he finds his Peaky Blinders hairstyle "disgusting" even though it "became a thing" for millions of viewers. The Oppenheimer star further added (jokingly) that the hair used to be cut in that way in order:
"To prevent lice infestation."
While the other guests on The Graham Norton Show were left in awe after hearing the amusing story (as the hair on top of Tommy's head made no sense), Murphy once again hit the tone of amusement. saying:
"You get like a 60% chance of not getting them."
With multiple spin-offs in queue, Peaky Blinders is gearing up to tell the story of the next generation of Small Heath, Birmingham. Earlier this month, the announcement of the new sequel series caused a lot of social media tumult with fans speculating Cillian Murphy, aka Tommy Shelby's appearance once again in the hit crime drama franchise.
And this time, as already confirmed by multiple sources, Netflix has joined hands with BBC to once again bring Steven Knight's magic to life. Per Deadline, Netflix is currently holding the global distribution rights for the upcoming Peaky Blinders sequel show while BBC One will oversee the United Kingdom.
