Based on Neil Gaiman's DC comic, The Sandman is a fantasy drama series available on Netflix. Gaiman, Allan Heinberg, and David S. Goyer created it. The story follows Dream, also called Morpheus, as he attempts to restore his realm, the Dreaming, after 106 years in captivity.

In addition to Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt, Dream is portrayed by Tom Sturridge. The series has won praise for its performances, appearance, and faithfulness to the original comic. While Season 2 aired in July 2025, Season 1 debuted in 2022.

Death: The High Cost of Living, the last bonus episode of The Sandman, will air on July 31. It explores themes of life and connection while chronicling Death's Day as a human. An insightful narrative is hinted at in a trailer posted on Netflix's X account, which offers a melancholy farewell to the critically praised series.

A clip from the Sandman's upcoming July 31 additional episode, Death: The High Cost of Living, has been released by Netflix on X. Following the conclusion of Season 2, this one episode serves as the series' last chapter and focuses on Death, one of the most adored figures in the Sandman universe.

The bonus episode, which tells a more subdued and intimate story apart from the main plot, is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 1993 spinoff comic of the same name.

After the tragic death of his son Orpheus, Morpheus (Dream) came to terms with his situation in Season 2, Episode 11. By choosing to die, Morpheus transferred his essence to Daniel Hall, who thereafter became the new Dream.

This dramatic conclusion marked the end of Dream's story and the start of a new one for the Dreaming, now led by Daniel. This new episode shifts the focus from the Dreaming to the everyday world as Daniel attempts to restore.

Death spends one day as a human in Death: The High Cost of Living, a recurring rite that she performs every hundred years to maintain ties with the people under her control.

The episode, which takes place in London, explores her brief but significant meeting with Sexton Furnival, a journalist who is trying to figure out his purpose. This story offers a more personal look at life, bereavement, and what gives life purpose, in contrast to the larger, cosmic themes of the main series.

To generate anticipation, Netflix posted a small clip from the episode on their official Sandman account on X (previously Twitter). The teaser depicts Death in her mortal form meeting Sexton and starting their trek around the city. The tone is thoughtful and genuine, giving viewers a sense of the episode's emotional heart. This early look emphasizes the episode's slower pace and cerebral mood, indicating a new sort of Sandman experience.

Returning as Death, Kirby Howell-Baptiste gives her performance nuance and empathy. Colin Morgan plays Sexton, a man who is at a turning point in his life. The episode revolves around their chemistry, which highlights themes of empathy, connection, and choosing to live despite adversity. By examining Death's function outside her responsibilities, this narrative enhances the Sandman world even if it stands alone.

Death: The High Cost of Living offers a last message of compassion and hope as The Sandman draws to a close. In contrast to earlier high-stakes tales in the series, this episode ends with a more tender, poignant farewell. It acts as a reminder that the most significant human events still occur in a world full of gods and illusions.
