Abbott Elementary has so far enjoyed a glorious run of four seasons. The ABC mockumentary sitcom has resonated well with the audience due to its heartwarming comedy and has earned several accolades along the way.
The show has already been renewed for a well-deserved fifth season, and fans certainly want it to continue for years. However, series creator and lead actress Quinta Brunson has now made a statement that could leave the audience worried about the show’s future.
In a recent interview, Brunson stated that the cast members of Abbott Elementary are willing to pursue other projects. Since the show’s filming takes up a lot of time, it stops her co-stars from grabbing other acting opportunities, and hence, there might be a point when they will have to think about concluding the ABC series.
Quinta Brunson says the Abbott Elementary cast would like to pursue other projects
Quinta Brunson recently had an interview with Bustle where she talked about the future of Abbott Elementary. The actress said she is fortunate to have a show that is confirmed to last for at least five seasons, but at the same time, it is time-consuming to make, which stops cast members from starring in other shows or films.
“We are so fortunate and blessed to be on a network TV show for five seasons, and for people to still be fans. That being said, I have cast members who would love to pursue other projects, and our show is very time-consuming. We shoot about seven months out of the year. That can stop people from being able to do a lot of other things.”
Brunson added that not just her co-stars, but she herself is also being offered scripts that she might like to pursue. She added that she wants to make Abbott Elementary a launchpad for the successful careers of its actors:
“Right now, I’m receiving scripts and waiting for that moment that feels like, ‘Oh man, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for.’ Abbott has been so successful, and I want to use that success to get other people’s projects off the ground.”
The show features an impressive ensemble, where every actor has received praise from the audience. Apart from Quinta Brunson as Janine Teagues, the show stars Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, and Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti.
Each of these actors and their supporting cast members has displayed immense talent during their time on the show, and it makes sense that they are getting some great opportunities. But Abbott Elementary would certainly not be the same without their presence, and as per Brunson’s comments, the show would not last long if the main cast decided to exit.
However, audiences need not worry for now, as the fifth season of the show is currently in development and will premiere on ABC in the fall of 2025. Before that, the show’s stars will be seen in a crossover episode with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which will be aired on FXX on July 9, 2025.
