NBC announced Saturday Night Live's UK version for the upcoming year with British cast and hosts on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Show creator Lorne Michaels, also an executive producer, announced the news and revealed that the show's UK version is set to air via U.K. broadcaster Sky.

For the Saturday Night Live fans who might not know, Sky is owned by Comcast. It is a parent company of NBCUniversal, owned by NBC News. As the broadcaster revealed in their release statement, the UK version of the show will be:

"Live, fast-paced style that has made the show a cultural phenomenon with iconic hosts, musical guests and a core cast of the funniest British comedians around."

As fans learned the latest update from the show creators and NBC, they went to the social media platform X and reacted to it.

A fan commented on X:

"This could be excruciatingly bad. #SNL #SNLUK."

Another fan wrote on the social media platform:

"I nominate the 1st & 2nd celebrity host to be David Mitchell & Bob Mortimer!!! #SNLUK #SNL."

A person wrote how they witnessed one of the shows back in 2012:

"Yess I went to see this live in 2012. This is huge trust me #SNL #snluk."

A user commented about "comedians" who will be appearing on Saturday Night Live's UK version:

"I can imagine the 'comedians' we'll get... #SNL #SNLUK."

An X user wrote about the Sky's announcement:

"Sky have announced the musical guest and host for the FIRST EVER episode of SNL UK!! #SNLUK."

A netizen wrote about the British version of the show and what could be the potentiality:

"A few thoughts on this one. I hope it feels distinctively British, as a lot of SNL humour doesn't translate. Also, as Richard Osman pointed out on Rest is Ents lately, locking in a cast for a while is hard as they will get offers elsewhere."

A person questioned if the SNL's UK version would be as "woke" as the US version:

"Will it be as woke as SNL?"

Another person commented about the show's format:

"As long as they go with the SNL model of bringing in young talent and not the British way of having Jimmy Carr present it with Rob Becket."

One more netizen wrote on X:

"Even in SNL's best years the sketches are largely unfunny. Norm on update really the only funny snl clips I've ever seen."

NBC announces Saturday Night Live's UK version: Scheduled to air in 2026

The recent announcement noted that Universal Television Alternative Studio's U.K. production team will be associated with the production. Along with them, Michael's Broadway Video from London will be producing the show's U.K. version.

Sky Group's news release mentioned:

"Sky is bringing NBC’s legendary late-night comedy showcase, Saturday Night Live, to the UK and Ireland in 2026. A star-studded lineup of hosts will take to the stage to declare, 'Live from London, it’s Saturday Night!' in this brand-new edition of the programme."

In February, fans saw that Saturday Night Live celebrated its 50th anniversary. The celebration featured renowned personalities, including Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, and Steve Martin for the special edition.

Additionally, there have been attempts to have various versions of Saturday Night Live in other countries including Japan, France, Italy, and South Korea. However except South Korea, no where else the experiment remained successful.

Fans can stream the latest Saturday Night Live episodes every Saturday at 8 pm ET.
