Lazarus premiered on Amazon Prime on October 22, 2025, with its six episodes dropping altogether. The show was marketed as a miniseries, and hence it is highly unlikely that it gets a nod for a season 2. However, some miniseries do get renewed on the basis of their viewership and overall popularity.

As of now, no official renewal or cancellation for Season 2 has been announced. The show ended with an explosive finale with Joel Lazarus uncovering what happened to his father, Dr. L. All this while he believed his father died by suicide, but as he pieced together evidence, especially from the "ghosts" of his father's patients, he learns the truth behind his father's death.

Read on to know more about the possibilities of a renewal and what season 2 could explore if greenlit.

As mentioned, Lazarus was marketed as a miniseries, and hence the possibilities are less that it could be renewed for a season 2. It is only after a week of it being premiered that the platform can gauge the overall viewership and decide on the status. It depends on how well season 1 is perceived and if the viewers are up for another season. Season 1 finale, indeed, leaves the viewers in shock with its back-to-back twisting revelations.

Dr. L had been working with Detective Chief Inspector Alison Brown to solve one of the most difficult cases. Joel, in the finale, discovers that Dr L was murdering his most "dangerous" or "damaged" patients. This was done to save them from themselves in the future. He used to then forge evidence, and Alison would frame already convicted criminals for the killings.

These are the people who are seen as socially unfit and are no longer wanted in society. Alison genuinely believed in her mission, putting away killers, r*pists, and pedophiles from society, until she realizes how Dr L is a murderer. When Alison confronted him, she told him to end his life and take the secret with him. He complied with it under immense emotional blackmail, taking his life away.

In the season finale, Laz finds the studio recording of that final confrontation between Alison and Dr L. This leaves him devastated, realising how he destroyed so many lives, including his own.

What does the finale imply about the future possibilities of Lazarus season 2?

Season 1 resolves several major arcs it opened in episode 1, like the mystery around Dr L's death, Alison's character arc, and the whole network of Alison's and Dr/L combined crimes. But even then, the series does leave some ends open, such as the traumatic legacy of the Lazarus family, and the psychological and spiritual elements built around the "ghosts" spirits or the unknown.

As it was conceived as a miniseries, the team might decide to end the narrative here, but Amazon also launches some multi-season miniseries if successful.

Therefore, we can say that season 2 is possible if audience numbers and viewership on Prime Video are strong. The real scenario only depends on the official confirmation by the network, which can be expected within 2-5 weeks post-premiere.
