As mentioned, Tina Fey, while speaking with Deadline, revealed that Steve will be dead in The Four Seasons, season 2. Steve responded with a question expressing how this keeps happening to him, while Fey asserted that she would like to keep it the same, regardless:

"I think we had all that pitched out and ready to pitch to him before he even signed on. And so we pitched out the whole season to him, and he was like, “Oh, why does this keep happening to me?” And so, I was like, “Oh no. But I was like, but I think I still want it to happen to you. Sorry.” "

She added how the actor and the crew together had such a great time while filming:

"And of course, he had such a good time. I think we all had such a great time together. And we had a really funny group text chain that when we got picked up for Season 2, everyone was like, “Yay, hooray, blah, blah.” And then five minutes after everything, Steve just wrote, “I’m dead."”"

Fey also teased the possibility of Steve Carell appearing in a flashback in The Four Seasons, despite his character having left the group:

"I couldn’t possibly say (if there will be a flashback). We have our format. I mean, of the many mistakes I’ve made in my career, killing him will hopefully go down as the biggest."

Along with Steve's character's fate in The Four Seasons, she revealed that the Season 2 writers' room has been open for a month, and the team is actively working together. The team is entirely using the creative liberty without making major references to the book. They have their original writers back and are moving forward with an original story for season 2. Tina Fey also spoke about how comedy is evolving, especially in an age where humour is expected to have more emotional nuance and real-world grounding.
