Viewers will soon be able to watch Counsels, an upcoming legal drama that has been commissioned by BBC Scotland and focuses on a group of young lawyers, who once trained together at one of Scotland’s elite law schools and are now practicing their profession but also facing each other in the courts of Glasgow.
According to Deadline, Counsels has begun its filming and the series is co-created by Scottish writers Bryan Elsley, who is known for Skins and Gillian McCormack, who is a BBC Writers’ Drama Room graduate. The show will have eight parts and will be set around Glasgow. Counsels is produced by Elsley’s Balloon Entertainment, which is known for Clique and is producing for BBC One, BBC iPlayer, and BBC Scotland, in association with All3Media International.

BBC also recently unveiled the young actors who will play the lawyers in Counsels. They are, Brandon Grace, Ro Kumer, Eilidh Park, George Prentice, Alyth Ross, and Rebecca Bell. All of these young stars will play the young lawyers who will have to face the real and raw world of law after graduation and learn to handle their personal and professional lives.
Brandon Grace is known for My Lady Jane, Ro Kumer is known for Accidental Death of an Anarchist, George Prentice is known for The Pendragon Cycle, whereas Eilidh Park is known for Wind of Change. Alyth Ross worked on Dirty Angels and Rebecca Bell was recently seen on Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Some of the other actors that will appear in Counsels include, Laura Haddock from The Recruit, Michelle Gomez from The Flight Attendant, Michael Nardone from The Night Manager, Sally Howitt from River City, and more. Co-creator Elsley comments that the show will have, “a galaxy of Scottish acting, writing and directing talent to our audience”. He is also proud of the Scottish setting and states, “I am delighted to be creating a show with BBC Scotland, where my career as a writer started many years ago. We have had unique access to the lawyers of Glasgow, and their experiences which will translate into a punchy, fast-moving show, based on their incredible and characterful stories.”

According to Deadline, Counsels is one of the three new BBC drama that are based in Scotland. The other two are Grams, which is a dark comedy thriller and The Young Team, which is based on Scottish author Graeme Armstrong’s debut novel.
