Amazon Prime Video's crime drama series Countdown surprised everyone by breaking one major genre formula and killing off its big bad, Borys "Volchek" Vusovich, ahead of the Season 1 finale. However, Episode 11 proves that Volchek was certainly the tip of the iceberg as Mark Meachum's (Jensen Ackles) task force has already found their new target, a sniper on the lookout for the President and California's governor.
Episode 11 opened after a ten-month time jump and also featured the return of Jessica Camacho's Agent Amber Oliveras. The Prime Video series is building on a will-they-won't-they romance for Mark and Oliveras, who started their working relationship on the wrong foot. However, things eventually took a different turn for the duo, making them an exceptional team.
While Oliveras' return suggested that Countdown is heading towards a romantic storyline for Mark and Oliveras, this was not the case. After their awkward interaction in Episode 10, Oliveras dropped a bombshell on Mark by revealing that she is dating his former doctor and her friend Julio. As expected, Mark did not take this news positively but still managed to reconcile his differences with Amber.
More on this in our story.
All about Mark and Oliveras' reconciliation in Countdown Episode 11
While Oliveras' surprising return in Countdown Episode 11 was exciting, it brought up tensions between her and Mark from the previous episode (which was ten months ago). The time jump in the latest episode of Countdown certainly helped the duo ease some of that tension off and work to catch the new sniper on the loose.
Fans who wished Oliveras' return might translate into a swooning on-screen romance for her and Mark will certainly be disappointed after learning that the Special Agent is not single anymore. On their way to Beruang Holdings, Oliveras reveals that she is in a relationship with Dr. Julio Beltran, and the couple has finally decided to give it another shot.
Since this was certainly not the kind of news Mark was expecting to hear from Oliveras in Countdown Episode 11, he was angry. Despite his reputation and Oliveras' efforts towards him, Mark never acted on his feelings for his partner. This made his reaction to Oliveras' relationship even more confusing. And while she seemed content with Julio for now, she can't deny the connection she feels with Mark.
Mark has shown significant progress in how he opened up about many personal things with Oliveras. But his overreaction to her relationship with Julio was surely a step back in that progress.
However, the next morning, Mark apologized for the things he said and the way he reacted to her news. This surely feels like a reconciliation between the almost-couple, but Countdown Episode 11 certainly thwarted all fans' hopes for a potential romance between them.
Can Mark and Oliveras still become a couple in Countdown?
Mark and Oliveras are certainly troubled individuals who have faced a fair share of problems in their professional and personal lives. While the couple initially started on the wrong foot, they developed a trusting work relationship, which eventually transformed into a potential friendship (and something more).
While nobody can deny that sparks were definitely flying between Mark and Oliveras throughout the crime drama series, Countdown Episode 10 suggested that Mark is still not ready to pursue a serious relationship with Oliveras. The things Oliveras did for Mark in Episode 10, from arranging his treatment to providing emotional support and even gathering the whole squad together, clearly show that she has deep feelings for Mark.
While Oliveras has currently initiated a romance with Julio, her return to Mark's task force suggests that the couple might have a chance in the future, and their fans are surely rooting for them.
