The horror anthology series Creepshow on Shudder officially ends after 4 Seasons. The series is based on the 1982 film ‘Creepshow,' written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero. The series revolves around entertaining spooky horror stories, created by Greg Nicotero of The Walking Dead fame. Even though the anthology series has bid farewell, fans can watch all the seasons on Blu-ray titled ‘Creepshow Complete Series’, which is set to release on November 11, 2025.
The 1982 Creepshow is a horror-anthology film that comprises five short stories centering around comic books. The movie was followed by ‘Creepshow 2’ in 1987 and ‘Creepshow 3’ in 2006. The series, based on the movies, premiered on Shudder in 2019.
About Creepshow on Shudder
The anthology series ran from 2019 to 2023 with 23 episodes and two specials on AMC Networks’ Shudder. Every episode through the years revolved around a unique story.
As per Variety, the series was initially planned for only four seasons, and hence, the news of discontinuation did not come as a surprise to the fans. In fact, owing to the anthology series format, the expectation of the audience isn't gambled through cliffhangers.
When the series premiered in 2019, Nicotero shared his excitement about being associated with the project. As per Deadline, he said,
“Having the opportunity to embrace the spirit of Creepshow and expand on what George and Steve created is, without a doubt, a lifelong dream come true…Having grown up in Pittsburgh, Creepshow lives in a special place for me.
He further divulged details about how the experience of being able to visit the set in Pittsburgh affected him as a teenager, as well as his craft in adulthood. He added,
I had the good fortune to visit the set as a teenager. I was able to look behind the curtain of filmmaking, and it changed me forever. I’m honored to continue telling the stories in the ‘comic book come to life’ world that fans fell in love with. This fall we will be ‘opening the coffin’ and unleashing upon the world our demented and ghastly stories, crafted by the best in business.”
Nicotero served as showrunner and executive producer on the series. Throughout its run, the series had several original as well as adapted stories from writers including King, Joe Hill, Heather Anne Campbell, and Nicotero. It also featured many well-known faces, including David Arquette, Giancarlo Esposito, D'Arcy Carden, Denise Crosby, Ted Raimi, Molly Ringwald, Tricia Helfer, Jeffrey Combs, and Justin Long, among others. The series holds an 85% critics rating and a 76% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series follows a unique formula of including two separate stories per episode, hosted by a spooky ghoul. This ensured crisp storytelling as well as kept the audience hooked. While the end of the anthology series will be disappointing to Stephen King fans, especially, the update on the Blu-Ray set, which will include all the episodes, is welcome news.
