Criminal Code Season 2 is officially coming, and Netflix has announced a worldwide premiere date of June 4, 2025. In the wake of the huge success of Season 1, originally titled DNA do Crime, the Brazilian crime thriller returns with a new instalment that picks up immediately where the hot cat-and-mouse game between federal police and a more complex criminal group left off.

The series, written by Heitor Dhalia and based on actual criminal investigations, received broad acclaim for its realistic storyline, forensic accuracy, and earthy performances. With a scheduled release date and all episodes released at the same time, fans now have a clear calendar of what is coming next in this action-packed crime drama.

Release date and time of Criminal Code Season 2

Netflix has officially confirmed that Criminal Code Season 2 will launch globally on June 4, 2025. All the episodes will arrive simultaneously, following Netflix's classic binge-watching pattern. The global launch allows for simultaneous access across all countries where Netflix is operational.

This continues the release pattern of Season 1, which dropped in November 2023 and rapidly ascended to the Top 10 in more than 71 territories. With no sign of mid-season hiatus or staggered release, subscribers should be able to have access on the release day, poised to begin at 12:00 AM Pacific Time (PT) based on typical Netflix release.

Streaming details of Criminal Code Season 2

Criminal Code Season 2 will only be available on Netflix in every market where the service is launched. Like the initial season, there are multilingual subtitles and dubbing options, which helped the series gain its extensive global following.

No exclusivity or tier-based access on any regional basis has been hinted at. A regular Netflix subscription will be enough to view the new episodes. Netflix is not confirming how many episodes are included, but the entire season will be available in one drop.

Recap of the previous episode

Season 1 of Criminal Code Season 2 ended with several cliffhanger moments. The narrative, based on forensic science and federal police probes, finishes with the Phantom Gang, under Isaac's leadership, pulling off a daring operation to liberate the Ambassador from jail. In a parallel storyline, Sem Alma also breaks out of custody, plunging the law enforcement activities into disarray.

On the police front, Suellen has mounting pressures in a commanding position, whereas Benício, facing profound personal grief, is under pressure to stay sharp despite increasing criminal risks. The season ends unresolved, leaving room for an immediate pick-up in Season 2, when the war is likely to intensify further.

What to expect from Criminal Code Season 2

Season 2 resumes in the first minutes of the Season 1 finale. It continues to chase the Phantom Gang. Now that the Embaixador (the Ambassador) and Sem Alma are free, the gang's activities should become more organized and aggressive. The plot will further delve into the changing methods of both the criminals and the federal police.

Suellen will have more leadership issues, and Benício's personal and professional life will continue to overlap under stress. The show will explore deeper corruption, surveillance, and forensic themes, with the gang's crimes escalating to more sophisticated and high-profile ones.

More details on Criminal Code Season 2

The lead cast is set to return for Season 2:

  1. Maeve Jinkings as Suellen
  2. Rômulo Braga as Benício
  3. Thomás Aquino as Sem Alma
  4. Alex Nader as Isaac

Behind the lens, Heitor Dhalia returns as the writer with Pedro Morelli and Felipe Vellasco again taking care of direction. The production and writing team is relatively static to maintain continuity in tone and plot.

The show remains loosely based on the actual 2017 heist in Paraguay's Ciudad del Este — one of the biggest robberies in Latin American history — where DNA evidence was used to crack the case. This real-world connection continues to influence the show's forensic-centric plot.

Season 1 ratings were impressively robust. The series entered the Top 10 in more than 71 countries and notched up millions of hours watched, making it one of Netflix's most viewed non-English content at launch.

Spin-offs, alternative endings, and other seasons have so far gone unmentioned, but with the sheer scope of production and international success of Season 2, releases may be updated after launch.
