Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 continues to serve as the revival and sequel to the acclaimed and long-running Criminal Minds series. At the heart of this new show is the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), a dedicated team of experts who fight crime and handle serial killers through psychological profiling.

In this updated version, the BAU isn't just tackling isolated cases, but also faces organized and disturbing threats. The events take place after the COVID-19 pandemic, which was exploited by criminals to form large connections.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 combines a strong cast of familiar faces from the original show and the reboot with a few new players who disrupt the dynamics of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU).

Each of the returning members brings their own experience and emotional richness to the team, while the new members introduce fresh layers of complexity to the team's struggles both on and off the job.

At the center of it all is Joe Mantegna, once again stepping into the role of David Rossi, the wise and respected leader of the BAU. Here's the list of other key figures returning in Season 3:

A.J. Cook reprises her role as Jennifer "JJ" Jareau: Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 brings back JJ, who's transformed from being the team’s media liaison into a skilled profiler.

Adam Rodriguez returns as Luke Alvez: A no-nonsense field agent whose grounded approach contrasts with some of the more emotionally-driven members of the team. Luke always focuses on getting the job done but this time he's expected to clash with the new characters.

Aisha Tyler is back as Dr. Tara Lewis: She's the forensic psychologist with a calm yet sharp presence in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3. Dr. Tara excels in analyzing behaviours, serving as a key figure during investigations.

Kirsten Vangsness returns as the ever-unique Penelope Garcia: Unlike the main series, Garcia now has dual responsibilities. She will be seen working as the team’s tech genius and the Media Liaison Officer.

Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss: Another returning character in Season 3 is Emily the head of the BAU. She's best known for making strategic decisions that ensure smooth functioning under pressure.

Another actor involved in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 is Ryan-James Hatanaka as Tyler Green, previously a recurring figure but now officially part of the core team. A master manipulator who prefers to work by bending rules to suit his goals, he does so while generally working in the shadows and for better purposes.

When it comes to notorious and evil characters, Zach Gilford will also reprise his role as Voit, alias "Sicarius". As seen in the previous seasons, he has always been a threat to the FBI, and now his story will expand.

Matthew Gray Gubler will also briefly return as Dr. Spencer Reid. He's a fan-favorite original series character appearing in a single episode after a hiatus in the reboot.

Exploring the new characters in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3

As previously explained, the new season will introduce fans to a few newcomers, who add to the complicated dynamics between the FBI agents. The two confirmed new cast members include:

Aimee Garcia as Dr. Julia Ochoa: She's a brilliant neuropsychiatrist involved in treating a high-profile patient dealing with brain trauma. Her medical style is frequently at odds with the field-based method of Luke Alvez, creating some professional friction.

Nicole Pacent plays Rebecca Wilson: This new character is a no-nonsense prosecutor who works alongside the BAU on legal matters. What makes her role more personal is that she’s also Tara Lewis’s girlfriend.

In addition to these newcomers, a few supporting characters from previous seasons are expected to make appearances, such as William LaMontagne, Jr., Deputy Director Doug Bailey, and Sydney Voit.
