Zach Gilford is no stranger to Criminal Minds: Evolution and has had recurring roles on the Criminal Minds spinoff show ever since its inception in 2022. Apart from playing the character of serial killer Elias Voit, Zach Gilford has also donned the director's hat on Criminal Minds: Evolution, directing the second season episode titled "North Star."

As the third season is here, Gilford is poised to once again find himself behind the camera and direct one episode. This time, however, he claims to feel nervous, aside from being excited at the prospect.

The actor said to ScreenRant,

"I mean, I don't have the script yet, but I'm really excited. I'm actually more nervous than I was the first time..."

Here's everything that you should know.

Zach Gilford spoke about directing for the second time on Criminal Minds: Evolution

Gilford recently spoke in an interview with ScreenRant, during the course of which he revealed that he shall be directing the seventh episode. The title and the screenplay of the episode are still under wraps; however, Gilford is understandably excited, albeit a bit nervous,

"I'm actually more nervous than I was the first time, I think because the first time went so well, and I lucked out because my script was one where... I mean, literally, of all the scripts I've read of Criminal Minds: Evolution, that one I connected to the most, that one was the most like, 'I know how to do this. I know how to make this episode.' So I'm nervous."

Speaking about his directing process and his use of music, Gilford further noted,

"What's my script going to be like this time? And I lucked into just an amazing cast on my episode, who kind of were the force behind it, between Felicity [Huffman] and Liana (Liberato) and David (Garelik). And so, yeah, I'm nervous, but I'm excited. I mean, the only thing I really do is I keep a playlist of songs where I'm like, 'This is cinematic,' and I put it in my directing playlist [laughing]. Then when I read the script, it's like, 'Oh, that song could work.' Or I'm like, 'Oh man, I got to find a song here.'"

Gilford finally wound up by expressing his gratitude to showrunner Erika Messer for allowing him to freely explore what he wanted to do with the episode. He mentioned,

"I love that they gave me the freedom in my episode to really use music in a way that they don't tend to very often on the show. It's not like they don't play songs, but I don't know, I just love that kind of filmmaking, and they let me lean into it, and they were happy with it, and it's just so supportive. Erica was like, 'Just go make your episode, make it the way you want to make. You can't deviate too far from Criminal Minds, but make your version of Criminal Minds.' So it was fun."

What's the latest buzz about Zach Gilford's character on Criminal Minds: Evolution?

Gilford's character of serial killer Elias Voit has made a lasting impression on the audience, and the ongoing third season has seen him in a compelling arc. Following a brain injury, Voit has seemingly lost his memories. The doctors concluded that Voit is suffering from amnesia. Rossi, however, remains uncertain if all of this is actually true.

Criminal Minds: Evolution airs new episodes every Thursday at 12 AM ET/3 AM PT on Paramount+. The ad-supported subscription tier begins at $8 per month, while an upgrade to the ad-free package would cost $13 per month. Paramount+ also offers new users a free seven-day trial.
