Criminal Minds Season 5 Episode 12 "The Uncanny Valley" recap: A chilling carousel find

In Criminal Minds Season 5 Episode 12, "The Uncanny Valley", a guard is making his rounds of a deserted carnival area when he sees someone playing on a carousel in the night. Then suddenly, the ride comes on, the music plays, and a guy named Don appears, saying he was working on it.
But the guard sees something disturbing: a young woman's body laid out among the carousel horses, dressed and posed. Meanwhile, Reid is playing chess with a young man who says he has missed him.
Reid admits he has been away for a time when he receives a message from JJ about a new case. At the briefing, JJ reveals that Rita Stuart, 25, the carousel victim, is the second woman they have found dead in Atlantic City.
The first was 29-year-old Stacia Jackson, who was located at a playground. They had very different lifestyles, but had also both gone missing for 2 months, drugged to a state of being conscious but paralyzed, and preserved to the point of looking perfect until they died. Their nails were painted, hair done, and brand new clothes. It was intentional.
A disturbing collector profile in Criminal Minds Season 5 Episode 12 emerges

Photos of various other women being clothed and posed similarly to mannequins confirm the killer’s obsession. While traveling on the jet, the BAU notes that the victims’ states show that they were well-fed and cared for, which is not common in most serial killer cases, and leans toward a woman being the unsub.
Garcia discovered that the chiffon outfits worn by the victims were styled by a local designer and tailored for a size to fit only small women, hinting that the killers took small women for their size.
Interviews with victims’ families found the victims never dressed in the outfit the dead women were discovered in. The wigs and extensions worn by victims covered up the fact that they had all lost their hair due to the drugs found in the killer's drug kit.
Two other petite women in the Criminal Minds episodes reported missing just before they were discovered had taken public pursuit of the earlier victims and displayed them for public display in the only childhood settings of the playground.
The BAU profiles the killer to be a female "collector" who sees her victims as human dolls, replacing something she lost. The paralysis is given in the drug that the killer uses to keep the victims perfectly composed in their poses.
The killer may have some sewing capabilities. She just has to have medical access. She was able to fit the perfect killing with socially acceptable methods of delivering hospital-grade drugs with the use of the designer's clothing.
The Criminal Minds episode ends with an intense rescue

After discovering a distinct seam in one of the victim’s clothes, the boutique owner traces it back to Samantha and Malcolm. Samantha’s chaotic past consists of her mother’s death, involuntary psychiatric treatment, and a domineering father.
Reid finds links between the toys in the father’s office and abuse of previous patients, ultimately leading to his revealing where Samantha is hiding. At the residence of the woman, Reid had previously found Bethany Wallace.
She's one of the abducted women, is starting to move again, and realizes she needs to try to free the other women, but Samantha is back. Using scissors to Bethany’s neck, she refuses to let Bethany go until Reid brings her original dolls back. She finally lets go, and the women are taken to the hospital.
Bethany is reunited with her husband, thanking whoever that she survived despite being diabetic. The episode ends with Reid, himself, quietly returning to his chess game, wrapping up one of Criminal Minds’ darkest cases.
